The story is set in the same universe as the "Royal Assassin" and "Raiders of the Sea". In short, for readers enjoying Robin Hobb, we are on familiar ground. The story follows the previously mentioned series and focuses on the dragons and the people of Rains. The characters from the previous series appear briefly (Malta, Althea ...) and the player must get to know new characters: misshapen teens rejected by the people of Rains, a woman's Merchant of Bingtown determined to gain independence and some men who occupy this time rather supporting roles. We also met many dragons in the making, each with a distinct personality.
As usual with Robin Hobb, description of the characters is magic and makes them very endearing. However, the topics were already addressed in Raiders of the Sea and the story itself is slow and unoriginal. This series seems to me rather recommended to fans of Robbin Hobb who do not want to see permanently cancel the adventures in the world she has so well described.
