Execution:
I bought the version with 8GB. Allegedly, the memory can be upgraded later. The sold here variant has a 4-cell 60Wh battery, and is equipped with a SSD and HDD. In Internet more (not yet available) versions are available, among others with 6-cell 96Wh battery, without HDD and 4K display. This could have a weight of 2.3kg.
Performance:
++ Very fast system and program start
++ Good for a laptop performance in games. Every detail I can not go here, but there are now sufficient tests on the Internet which are in line with my first impression.
+ Beautiful display with wide viewing angle. Brightness OK.
(-) Duration: Surfing is a maximum of 4 hours, video streaming 2-3, playing 1.5h. For gaming laptops are probably good values, but one wishes the pure surfing sometime but a bigger battery
Volume:
++ Games like GuildWars2 and Fallout3 can be played without turning up the fan noise!
+ For newer titles, the fans have to but longer afford the fans are clearly audible, but for a notebook OK
(-) What is striking: when copying and installing large amounts of data, the fans rotate at full, louder than in some games.
Generally, ASUS has done a lot here, taking into account the performance of the laptop and the slim design!
Other:
The HDD is factory divided into two partitions
Included was a USB-to-LAN adapter
GeForce Experience indicates no new driver version, although there is now a newer version
BIOS version 203 is installed, now BIOS 204 is available at ASUS.
The power connector is on the left side, the cable is designed with a 90 ° connector, can be conveniently placed to the rear and then does not bother
Conclusion:
I have the G501JW chosen because I was looking for a powerful, but thin and especially quiet laptop.
So far I use the laptop for almost a week, and am fully convinced.
I recommend the laptop to anyone who wants a good combination of performance, weight and style.
