Captain Morgan's Revenge (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Alestorm keep what they promise with their band name and the cover: they deliver catchy, fast, rough Folk / (Pirates) / Metal whose texts deal exclusively with beer, rum, raids, treasures and pirate curses.
The individual songs go really well in the ear and after two runs per song one knows both the tunes by heart and as much as possible the (sometimes too simple and predictable) texts.
Profound lyrics should of Alestorm so do not expect, but also not disturbing, because the lyrics underscore so the better the loose and swaying inspiring melodies of the individual songs.
The songs themselves are very well matched: fast, powerful songs like "Hunt Master" or "Set Sail and conquer" on acoustic numbers like "of treasure" and the gecoverte Scottish folk song "(the) Flower of Scotland" is everything thereby to make listening to the disc varied. "Nancy The Tavern Wench" is in turn a quiet midtempo number that invites with its lyrics for drinking, while "Captain Morgan's Revenge" the over number of the album is simply: bombastic, successful text (the highly reminiscent of Pirates of the Caribbean) and beautiful accordion deposits.
The song fits on the Meldodien like chalk and cheese, it's scratchy, rough and recalls, as mentioned already, here and there, actually a sailor standing after a night at the wheel and the impetuous wind combats the.

This album is worth a purchase in any case, because it is in my opinion something new in the music world, although comparisons with Turisas here and there are to have not completely out of hand.

I forgive "only" 4 stars for the album, on the one hand for the entire duration of almost 42 minutes but sorely short, and I can on the other hand are only a few really outstanding songs on the album, from "Captain Morgan's Revenge" and my personal favorite song "Nancy The Tavern Wench" apart. Which is not to imply that the rest of the songs are boring: they are all good, but just not as good to 5 star to be worth it.
