We have bought the kettle only for the holidays and are very happy with it. He has now been with us three times (air travel) and there is no damage in the luggage. The aforementioned artificial smell (or taste) we could not determine - neither the kettle itself, nor in the delivered (two) plastic cups and -löffeln. The cleaning is relatively simple, in that it has a smooth steel base. Only due to the low power - and therefore also not five star - you always have to wait a relatively long time until the water boils.
Benefits: Stable, very small, not too heavy. No unpleasant odors. Easy to clean. Cute accessories.
Disadvantages: Relatively slow wg. the low power (but on vacation you have plenty of time).
Conclusion: We are very satisfied with the device. Let him once get broken, we would just buy this kettle again - but only for the holidays, not for everyday use.
