I have the MP640 now for over 2 years in use and am more dissatisfied, the longer I have at various PCs UDN Tablets in use with the combined unit.
While the output quality and also speed are quite good and the scan quality is satisfactory to good for me but what can be this device might be my last CANON printer / scanners are the total unsatisfactory software and firmware quality and the scale of their printing costs by the defective hardware.

Main criticisms:
- Infinity ink waste by frequent and lengthy (sometimes lasting several minutes) nozzle cleaning. Even if I have just a couple of pages printed, the printer cleans afterwards minutes its printhead. When you turn anyway and it does not matter whether the device is connected to AC power or the power is turned off (pull the plug, switchable socket).
- Extremely plated ink prices - in replacement of all cartridges you are 50 to 60 euros going for a few milli-liters of ink.
- Scanner can only be manually set with tricks on the maximum scanning resolution. Built-in filters often slow and ineffective.

Overall, I am using the MP640 increasingly dissatisfied and can not therefore recommend the MP640.
