The Sony makes use of the look and feel her a little clunky and somehow "cheap" impression. The Canon is better in my eyes in the hand and makes an overall impression wertigeren. The controls are at Sony somehow "shaky" (they go * very * easy) - at the Canon they are "fixed" (go for it even more strict!).
The flash is on both cameras in a stupid position - namely exactly where they want to keep the camera actually. When Sony is even stupider because of lightning takes the single, complete left upper part of the camera - the Canon it is only half the upper case.
Assuming so purely on the external form, the Sony completely loses!
Now to more important - the image quality.
Yes, the Sony has a watercolor effect - you zoom into the images purely that pictures look quite fast like Painted with watercolor. But unfortunately it is not true that the Canon images "better" would be - they are just different bad: you become blurry and washed out. Ie it is ultimately almost matter - wants to make a (very small) cut, you will with two cameras have no fun.
I use the images in the rule for normal prints (10x15, rare times A4) and photo books ... and since you're in the situation that the images of Sony would rather "smaller" must. One must not forget that the images have 18MP, ie which are already large - with quite very good quality. Therefore, you can make a "normal" cut for a photo book or a print deduction also quite, because it has nothing more "zoom" long with doing. That is the evil watercolor effect will be in real life do not often see (unless you really want to print out a tiny detail on A4 - but how often does that before !?)
If you look at the images of the Sony and Canon in direct comparison to the TV - act the images of the Sony a bit more lively and colorful. Watercolor effect is definitely there to see any - the images are only "great" :)
The automatic functions of Sony are working much better and more impressive than that of the Canon in my eyes. See the photos usually. more natural and appealing from. Even in difficult situations, such as night scenes, the Sony makes quite a good figure.
The 20x zoom is pretty much the same for both models - felt I had the impression that it is easier with 20x zoom with Sony to get sharp images than the Canon - one blurred already relatively easy if you so strong zoomed.
The 18MB chip of Sony is of course a joke ... who believes in the quality of images from 18 MB to get, well ... :) but the images are not sooo much bigger than the Canon (?) - Is therefore of the verschmerzlich. One might wish to consider whether one stores the images in low resolution ... then still enough!
So - from the images quality made me ultimately the Sony more convinced than the Canon.
Then the video function - which was personally quite important to me because, degree, fiddling with two cameras but is a nuisance on holiday, a few movies are always a nice touch. And here me the Sony then completely convinced! It's just insane how perfect are the videos of the Sony. The films are absolutely smooth, no Rückler (filmed from the hand) and the quality quite amazing, even in darker situations, for example. The films of the Canon were not bad - but somehow were the films "choppy" and tended very quickly to "color spots". Therefore, whoever wants sensible films, comes to the Sony currently not over!
Another feature that I was very important was GPS ... and here the Sony runs the Canon from the rank. The Sony has after switching on the GPS lock after about 20 seconds (outdoor) - the Canon seeks partly 5 minutes and found nothing (yes, the auxiliary data at both top). That makes no sense so just - I want so even if snapshots have the GPS ...
One point I do not think is great, but not me sooo important:
In the Sony battery is charged inside the camera - there is no charger here. The power connector (mini USB) is also on the lower side (next to the battery compartment). This means that the camera is loading either on the screen or the lens ... that would be in my eyes better able to solve!
The battery yes ... there was something else:
In my tests, I saw that the Sony battery lasts a good deal longer than the Canon. I have not measured it, but he roughly container about 1/3 longer ... (in much the same use of the camera)
All in all:
The Sony is not optically soooo beautiful (mei, a matter of taste) - the video function is top but definitely, and image quality for normal situations still better than that of other models. I have decided therefore for Sony.
