Alone with the supplied thermal paste (no idea what brand that is, if any) already cools the thing quite nice: In a well-heated room in winter is the core temperature in idle at 26 degrees, for 10 minutes under Prime95 maximum 71 degrees. (Not overclocked, only Turbo Boost)
Meanwhile, I have the components again built in a new housing - the Silent Base 800, an insulated housing (!) - And also used in the course of this right the new installation a new thermal compound, the Arctic MX-2, and the CPU overclocked to 4.7 GHz (Multiplier to 47 for all cores, Vcore +0054). With the new WLP the cooler the CPU now takes significantly more heat than previously. Idle temperatures are around 28-29 ° C in this setup and 48-51 ° C under load (Games).
Core temperatures during "typical application scenarios" (= Gaming, demanding applications), I might push this even after, finally that's what comes out when Prime95 really extreme and not representative of the average "load".
Materials and workmanship are very good, the whole part feels very valuable to (and looks it). However, the blades are extremely sharp to intersect when installed in the fingers is not difficult. A glove is highly recommended during handling of the pad!
Volume: in idle or at low speed virtually inaudible, even with open housing. Under load you can hear the wind ... when you are working. Come to my new components I use housing / power supply out of old stock, both drown out the radiator.
If anyone, after reading some reviews on relevant pages now asks if now the speeds of different type (6-pin) fan can be read correctly: Yes! Apparently BE has the quiet as mentioned in the reviews promised Adapter with new copies installed directly.
Negative points, the cooler but also:
- Unwieldy installation.
I have the part screwed directly onto the motherboard before I built everything into the case, but even so it was far from easy. What must be done is very easy to understand with the instructions, only the execution in practice is the problem. This is mainly due to the bulkiness and weight.
- The already mentioned bulkiness.
Well, I have already, at least no problems, the radiator ever fully accommodate in my case, but nevertheless persists that this thing just about covers everything. Everything is again in the housing there, it is very difficult to arrive at important points on the mainboard: ATX12V up at the ports, the CPU fan header, and the RAM banks.
The latter are completely covered with motherboard models with 4 benches when the external fan is mounted; you take it off, after all, are "only" 2 processor obscured closest. In the outermost slot you get with a little tweaking, even when mounted fan is plugged in a tie, further inside it seems to be just possible from the square, but the absence of vision and space for the hands a difficult undertaking.
The amount of RAM module can be a problem: Who bars with oversized Heatspreaders uses (eg Corsair Dominator, G.Skill RipJaws, ...) can write these coolers equal completely, because that simply do not fit under the radiator underneath. I myself have the problem fortunately not because I find such models potthässlich and rather low profile RAM have - I use here G.Skill Ares that fit easily and even a few millimeters have room for improvement.
Forgive I'd like 3 1/2 stars because the however not round I go on to 4.
