This product replaces my old GO 920T, which is out of use. My assessment is based in part on the comparison between the two models even if several years of design between them. First point: the screen. I opted for the GO 1005 for its capacitive screen seen my troubles with the GO 920 to resistive screen (which requires for lay real support and not a simple touch of the finger), the resistive layer has deteriorated with the time making the screen unusable. That's why I opted for the GO 1005 rather than the GO 825 that offers more or less the same functionality with the difference of the screen, always résistif.La counterparty is a greater sensitivity to glare, the screen being glass (and therefore more fragile). Otherwise the larger size remains more even if we can deplore the resolution still low compared to the same range of Garmin (x4 approximately). It remains to position it in a place and not annoying at the same time accessible on the windshield seen its bulk. Second point: the features. Here we are less for less expensive compared to GO 920 Live service apart from the (traffic, weather, and MapShare quickfix (rapid identification of satellites)), more efficient and accurate than the simple (TMC information by FM radios) of GO 920T, but also more expensive (50 / year after the first free year for a card while the TMC license is granted for life). Missing compared to previous generations the FM transmitter to listen to MP3 music stored on the GPS on his car radio (gadget and actually banned in France in the beginning), compass and especially the accelerometer that allowed no of GPS signal to continue to have an approximate position of the vehicle (hyper practice in the maze of tunnels of Defense, for example). The Bluetooth hands-free fashion with a GSM is still impractical (difficult to use directory), short again and again a gimmick: when a real interfacing with a mobile as Android begins offering the Garmin? Hopefully on upcoming update. Third point: the accessories. Uh accessories you said ??? Here is the complete wilderness to upscale. One cable, a cigarette lighter adapter and windshield support. No cover, no cradle for PC connection, no remote control: you are good to buy a second cable (owner, exit the single mini-USB cable) for updates to the PC if you want to install cable comes with the fixed GPS in your vehicle. However good point for the new magnetic medium that avoids painful cable connections every time you install the GPS. Fourth point performance. If the calculation and correction of the course in circulation on error are better than previous generations, Tomtom is still lagging behind in terms of responsiveness to embedded GPS in smartphones (admittedly less practical). Blame it on a less powerful processor, is evident in the use of the GPS interface that responds with a pronounced latency (less reactive than a GO 920). Fortunately, the capacitive screen makes up a little. Fifth point: ergonomics. No major changes: pins are kept when you're used to Tomtom interface. I have not yet been able to assess the course of several steps and comment on the regressions mentioned by another buyer. Sixth point: the opening. No more visible as Tomtom USB drive on your PC. We must move systematically through software My Tomtom to file any file whatsoever. Restrictive even if TomTom has been obliged to open a little to drop his GPS POI lists. One last point: the updates. Tomtom has finally aligned its competitors to offer Lifetime Map Updates. Damage (but this has always been the case) that their site is as winded: Count 4 hours to update European card. In summary, I do not regret my purchase. Tomtom is still the best in terms of maps and traffic information. This is endorsed the selection over a Garmin. But I am far from my expectations for a high-end.
