Okay, I'm exaggerating a little, and I will try to put into words my feelings. Above all, we must say that the vampires, it was my hobby. Until it was made of vapid and tormented creatures, the myth breaks a little mouth every new novel corny at best. And, until a certain saga dear to my heart comes raise standards and reconcile with sharp teeth (If you're new, I mean Dead Rose, of course!)
So naturally, when they sold me in the veins like a novel featuring real old vampires, who eat human and like that ... I was more an interested. Then came all the good reviews and the blows of heart in series in the blogger, and if I had not received my birthday, I probably would have bought myself. Moreover, once received, I devoured that day.
Clearly, it is far from Twilight. The author may be a little too desperately to put forward this feature, but I quibble. The four vampires we follow are deviant, unhealthy, cruel and perverse. In fact, all the characters are, what a little unbalanced it all, but I will. We must make one thing clear: this book may shock, and not a little. It is not a matter of blood, gore and disgusting, not even a matter of a little too hardcore sex, it's more of the psychological side impact me personally disturbed. One can for example be found in the veins In scenes of rape or torture described with care particularly morbid detail, so be sure to be prepared before starting the novel.
This is one of the points of the novel that disturbed me. gore, unhealthy, I do not say no, but if it serves the plot. The description of some scenes fiercely displeased me, I could see more voyeuristic than anything else. Especially when you touch the incestuous rape or pedophilia, or even torture. Especially suggesting that one can achieve similar results. This is not always the case and sometimes of course these scenes serve the plot of the novel, but I found some redundant and not necessarily needed.
Also, as I said earlier, there is no character who can be called respectable. The four vampires are deviants possible, each in its way, but they are not necessarily the worst. Every human being present in the novel is detestable because of one or more things, which created a kind of imbalance as the bad characters had the advantage. the result is that I am absolutely committed to me any of them and I was indifferent to their fate. There is very little shade and the story suffers a bit.
About vampires, I liked regard their desires and needs. Their thirst does not stop the blood, they look absolutely all fluids, such as tears, to be constantly renewed. Also, their mere presence is poison, poison that affects all living things, plants included.
Unfortunately, what I liked was also slightly marred by the pseudo love story caricature at the center of history. We had a side soulless vampires and ultimately uninteresting as soon as we moved away from the main frame, because at this stage as track animals if the feelings do not govern ... and the another, a vampire who sought to regain past emotions, buried, and which used a high school girl for it. A little shade less gore on one side and less on the other sugary would have restored a balance that lacked this side as well. And finally, I stayed a little out of the story, never really see what was the common thread. Especially with the end that completely breaks the rhythm and we give up a little to our fate.
I must say that the style of the author was pleasant enough to make me want to go on and finish the novel, and in a single day. I was a little embarrassed by the change in tone of the narration which in turn adopted the style of the characters through whose eyes we followed the scene. This is not necessarily wrong, and not necessarily shocking either (except for a particularly rough character) but I would have preferred a linear narrative, especially in the third person. I quibble again, because I really thought Morgane Caussarieu had a very fluid style, which read alone.
I feel it makes little positives actually, but the book is clearly not bad either. It just lacked nuance, the author was also far too focused on the idea of offering the most distant possible vampire clichés and recent history has suffered a bit. With just under Manichaeism and, to my taste, a little less murky scenes too detailed, I would have been more enthusiastic.
Finally, the veins in an interesting novel that makes me want to discover Morgane Caussarieu otherwise. And once again, especially not to put all hands!
