Quest for Fire (Paperback)

Customer Review

Generally (but in each case), I greatly appreciate the style of Jean Rosny Aisné, there is a kind of epic grandiloquence very right tone which is quite fascinating and rhythmic, chanted in fact, that is quite captivating.

The nights become longer than the nights with the author, the sky is immense and inaccessible to him, except for birds and spears, music is the sound of drills, rain, dead wood creaking.

There are living beings, animals and men who are on the edge of the wonderful despite the rational and scientific impetus that led to their development.

It`s very wonderful that it is, but it is a scientific wonderful exquisite, deliciously quaint and more.
Indeed Jean Aisné Rosny is the French language author who truly merge science and literature in a futurist or dynamic, more "just" in a dynamic élucidatoire.

But do not be mistaken, this is a literary genre which is founded here by fiction setting of discourse and science.
With this author much, much, too little known, the French-language science fiction is put in the nails, and from the viewpoint of the structure, it will be remarkably interesting that forms of this kind ultimately not have much bougées since.

I pass to Jean Rosny Aisné that it is the champion of otherness and his lyrics are not likely, in their completeness, shaming an improvised ethics committee or not.

By animating the scientific discourse, the author has created two kinds. Indeed, in addition to SF, this is the kind of fiction (novels) Prehistoric that is less flourishing and is less diversified than SF. But there is, and that truly deserves to be explored. It also possesses a rich and dense in fact history.

In fact the author's fiction may be the subject of a scientific comment which involves the history of science which is quite easy to do in outline, but that is incredibly tedious in the details. For each novel, a particular prehistoric Data roughly referenced and documented by the author, who has seriously explored prehistory until the dawn of the Neolithic, so curiously, no further than the beginnings of civilizations ....

The idea of the flame war is that man has tamed fire. He can not produce itself the saving flame, but he knows to conserve and transport over long distances and for long durations. Already there in the simple preservation of fire a lot of technology, such as theoretical knowledge. The author postulates here that men have fought for this source of life.

In the novel and the courtyard of this short war, tribe loses heat and therefore it is a violent psychological fracture in this population resulting from this loss. The people that are as small as already structured social functions, will lose with fire, safety, and with it, all forms of power and status, face the dangers of nature.

A warrior will leave in search of fire. He will find it and it will also discover a way to do it (to make it). It will make this discovery together with the feeling of love towards someone who belongs to a group of people physically very different from him. The author himself, will talk about race. A concept (exceeded) that introduces radical differences between people, but that will be as often transcended by the characters created by the author.

JRA also raises the base of a totem thought. A thought which he emerges primarily apparently a real relationship intensely felt by men of these early times with the animal and vegetable kingdoms. Consider for example, the emotional repercussions of casual and wonderful alliance with the mammoths in this novel.

The author does not postulate the systematic cannibalism. he poses as the food (which is a partial error), but progression to status as a man always excluded home cannibalism, which is another mistake. However here welcome the rejection of the author to subscribe to the theses that supported his time, unpleasantly, the equation: Wild and Primitive = First and cannibals.

A contemporary préhistorien come in this certainly disappoint you because the contrary, cannibalism is among others a line of established civilization. It was as he was, and probably highly regulated ritually, he was also a trait of highly structured and complex civilization but emphasize that it was not always a reality, and far from it.

I conclude this text too long stressing the epic character of this highly successful novel (an eponymous film) and saying that these prehistoric fictions are often beautiful pictorial texts written in a language and a nineteenth-century style so quite classical literature finally.

The genius of the author was also to cultural and psychological complexity in very small human groups, because remember that the human species to spend the overwhelming majority of its time in almost family groups in small scale ( thirty people maximum).

It is also a fact and a factor to consider in appropriate and to feel that long and endless prehistoric period. This novel could help you do more to distract you ...
