Although it requires a quite particular type batteries but these are compared to a standard AA battery is substantially smaller and supply the double voltage. The torch is so small and much brighter.
I have since 3 years always a mini flashlights with CR123 batteries in your pocket, have bought a ten-pack of 14,50 at the beginning and still have 5 of them. The batteries needed are not a disadvantage!
