I bought the Xcover 2 a year ago with 1 & 1 and would like to warn everyone not to buy this machine!
The outdoor suitability has been tested by me and the water tightness. I am myself an occasional geocachers and the battery lasts a surprisingly long time with GPS and is incredibly accurate. But for that I do not need a smartphone but lost my GPS device which is also waterproof.
The handling could be better and the feel is good. Negative case falls the plastic sleeve on the rubberised is. You may not use any silicone sleeve because accumulates between silicone sleeve and device dust or dirt and that scratched the whole mobile shell. I work in construction and as a dirt falls ever in your pocket.
Now to the problem which gives me for months to create: The internal memory.
Be Android 4.0 you can not move any more apps to the external memory card without root (administrator rights). The internal memory of the device is 4 GB small which is Google / Samsung has the same times 3.2GB swiped, for the operating system and loads of useless apps that nobody needs, but you can not delete !!!
If you now think that this is not so bad, because 800MB is not so little, many apps I did not, then you are like me on the spot in front of the mobile purchase: on the wrong track!
The Gallery stores their thumbnails on the internal memory. Ätsch! So fall ever 500MB and more + Facebook 50MB + WhatsApp 50MB and the whole crap you do not need is the time and every update also getting bigger and whoosh you can the pictures which have been photographed no longer ankucken or finished listening update or Apps. You can not imagine how annoying that is!
When I have time and nerves, I could time the Xcover 2 to factory settings, update all the apps and then vollknallen the whole 32 GB microSD card with pictures, let's see how big the gallery is then and I'll bet you is too big and I can not open ...
Now you think you can install App2sd and move the apps easily on the SD but with root privileges. What the PC has any, namely Admin rights and also no other way, leads the smartphone will void the warranty!
Well then, we wait but on the announced update to Android 4.2 which one that we know the possibility of Android 2.3.x, regained, namely to move apps to the SD card. Now that I've been waiting on it one year. SamMobile already knew April '13 from an update for Xcover 2 on Android 4.2 and we have in March '14 and now mobile phones with 4.4 which runs on low-performance smart phones ...
So dear folks at Samsung, I do not know where the problem lies, because flash memory can not be so expensive 8GB would have done it or 16 but 4 ??? This makes it impossible to use the smartphone as such, because if I have a smart phone, I would like to invite me as it and undisturbed view snapshots and Apps. It does not to the extent of a S3 or S4 be but even to block it all is the other extreme.
The problem of the internal memory has been addressed to me too little in the reviews and to submit its own well in the tests on the internet, which is why I have then made me even bother and I hope I can deter many buying the phone, it because with Android 4.2, you can move its Apps. When arriving I say here know immediately. As long as it is not regarded as smart, as most GPS device with colorful display!
