Workmanship, haptics etc. are the Body proven quality and move in a balanced price / Leistungsverhätlniss. Nothing super spectacular, but all very solid.
For kit lens I do not want to say much. I purchased it because the body alone was not yet available. In this price range, however, are all manufacturers at a similar level. Buy as soon as possible, at least a 40mm STM and / or a solid push higher light intensity, if you opt to stay in the EOS system. For the very beginning, however, the 18-55 STM should suffice.
EDIT: I just now intensively dealt with the EF-S 18-55 STM and realized that the lens - at least my copy - on the 70D much better in video AF works as the 40mm STM. The focus transitions are much softer and more comfortable, and I have a purely subjective feeling that the camera with this lens a higher 'hit rate' achieved, even at ISO 6400 in low light conditions. The 18-55 STM also works really nearly silent (like me because I'm working with an external recorder, for In-camera microphone-users but perhaps an important criterion) while the 40mm STM comparatively orderly "buzzing". In Photo mode, have what also angetestet short in now, is the 18-55 STM in Live View rapidly (finally comparable to the speed good Mirrorless system cameras), worlds before Live View Focus speed of all previous EOS cameras without the new technology - a real step forward.
I bought my 70D in the kit with the EF-S 18-55 STM at a local retail store, as it was not yet available at the time of my purchase from Amazon itself. I have a good piece procured me primarily for movies with autofocus, the entire photograph division I will therefore from here, because they do not continue to be interested. Although I have for my 5D Mark III a host of facilities with (manual) FollowFocus, but "demanding poorer" just in, quickly to create (easy Bewegunsabläufe, no extreme demands on resolution and noise) video for the web sometimes would be my camera with autofocus quite pleasant. In particular, the handheld movies of interviews has already gained much if the person filmed defies small movements always sharp in the image remains.
As far as the advertising promises to be largely met. Sometimes you can still see that the technology is still relatively new and movements and reliability (especially in low light) differ a little from the expectations / human predictions. As will be sure yet fine-tuned the Alogorithmen. Overall, one can, however, work very well and reliably with not too complex and quick movements and mediocre lighting conditions with the video AF .... a DSLR already a fairly new feeling :-) Canon has once again managed with its different type strategy new technological ground to open up.
SUPPLEMENT: For those who want to be photographed primarily with this camera: Do not be confused by the test results. Even if the advertising focus on this camera is currently on the new AF system and the films - the 70D also offers excellent performance in terms of picture quality in stills. Certainly, there will be differences in the paper and in precise technical tests and Canon always has to be repeatedly hold, only slightly develop its sensors. The Nikon D7100 is currently supplying about in objective tests seemingly better results (see. About DxOMark). However, these differences in the practical application will be less relevant and most users of this class of camera, the full capabilities of the sensor never exploit / need. Who a clearer quality increase, especially in noise performance required is already currently not able to avoid a full-frame DSLR - the differences are still very clearly. That does not mean that you could not achieve acceptable results even at ISO 6400 with the 70D. Besides the fact that this course a question of aesthetic position is (many a photographer later photoshopt the noise only hinen), it really depends what you want to ultimately do with the pictures. It's nice that in some discussions in stark Crops unbearable noise is attested - how relevant this is ultimately to the viewer in practice, however, is highly dependent on many factors (use and scaling of images, aesthetics etc.) and warrants not a blanket passing judgment. It should be remembered that a situation in which I need for durable shutter speeds ISO 6400, usually is a photographic extreme situation. In order to avoid (if possible), you can extend the shutter speed (possibly using a tripod) either wait for better light, make themselves light or use a stronger light lens. Who gets by with f1.2 and then still ISO6400 benötig, is then definitely in an extreme situation in which one can not expect to achieve top results with the very best equipment, as 100 are possible under ideal lighting conditions such as ISO , And here are the current capabilities of the sensors in comparison to the state of currently few years simply impressive.
If you like Canon system technically, you like the body and / or the (current) unique feature of the excellent video AF is relevant to you, the 70D offers a good price / performance ratio, with which one can not go wrong. If you want to have the best lens APS-C camera, video quality / -AF, however, are not so important, the body still a little bit to be solid / needs and / or you do not like the Canon system, could possibly Nikon better choice be. The main thing, however, you shoot so ever and ALWAYS RAW :-) :-) :-)
