The English Suites are a centerpiece of the Gouldian discography and, to some extent, of keyboard compositions of Bach. They receive here with this recording, a masterful expression, very thoughtful, revealing the primacy occupied in the thought of Gould, the perfection of form on event considerations not participating properly speaking of the potential of timelessness to own music. Some might lament the aspect of "disembodied" of these suites played by Gould, but this would ignore the power of the approach and the aesthetic reflection of the artist; beyond a perfectionist sculpture of sound material and fine chiselling of its internal joints is a more encompassing existential dimension, unified and transcendent striving to achieve through the piano and the interpreter, Gould aims to achieve . It is in this spirit that we must listen to Bach Gould, in suites and elsewhere. The experience has never stopped, in my case, to provide evidence for this interpretation, especially by the pleasure and happiness that provide suites that can listen here.
