(For context: I am a layman who uses the camera mostly for vacations and parties, but as a physicist, after all, knows exactly how the optics works and how to deal with aperture and focal length)
1) The large sensor (APS-C) in such a small camera is a blessing. Add to that using a prime lens with large aperture (in my case, for example, the SEL-35F18), you have at one time a still quite small box in his hand, with which you can take pictures without a flash even in good lighting Party. Of course you can still increase it in full size, but for the price I am thrilled with the light intensity.
2.) The menu is good, but unfamiliar. Compared to the more expensive models, the NEX-5T has rather few buttons for direct access to settings and the menu hardly adapts to the current operating concepts of DSLRs. I think largely succeeded the menus, but you have to get used to it.
3.) A digital viewfinder would not be bad. In general I like the screen, but if it's in the sun times really bright, it is very difficult to judge the correct exposure. Then I would prefer a digital viewfinder. One can indeed be retrofitted, but the more expensive model with screen viewfinder is then also interesting.
4) The connection for the optional viewfinder is unfortunately used for the flash. Many complain that no flash is integrated and included only a small plug-on flash, but what I find super. The camera is very bright and usually I would carry the Mini flash not even. This is in my eyes so good. Stupid thing is that I do not have many options in the situations in which I need a good flash, as there is only the proprietary connector. If the available light is not enough, I do not want to use the mini flash namely but preferably bounce a strong flash (directed at the ceiling instead of on the subject to illuminate the room, instead of the subject to illuminate Platt) and then control by TTL ( the camera measures a barely perceptible pre-flash the correct brightness and adjusts the intensity of the flash itself). A strange flash but you can install only on dubious adapter and TTL then not at all. That leaves only the unusual Sony flash HVL-F20S, which actually bounce back on this camera and TTL can. Unfortunately, Sony has now abandoned the proprietary connection again and this flash is hard to get (Caution! Do not HVL-F20M). I have found one more on ebay and get along well with it, but I still think this is the biggest problem of this camera!
5.) NFC rocks ... When one is not to hurry. Actually building up the wireless connection to a smartphone via NFC is super. It dissolves still astonishment at the bystanders and could fit the viewfinder for the group Selfie is also good. Unfortunately, the whole bit takes too long, so I flap usually would rather just the display up and release the camera with a 5-infrared remote control.
6.) The kit lens is ok and especially impressive compact. It should be emphasized that the latter is his strength. I do not know that I had ever seen a zoom lens for the APS-C format, which is retracted so small. The course pays you so that the result is just "just ok". The lens distorted pretty, which is no problem for snapshots and in JPG mode of the camera is self-correcting, but occasionally in the an important photo in RAW format annoying tidy. I recommend anyone who still wants to get out to get something more, try a prime lens with large aperture - There is a reason that you can replace the lens with such cameras ...
7.) The app feature is a great idea and actually works quite well. Just a pity that the few really meaningful Apps comes the feeling that one this feature free in-camera software could integrate. The only one that I love and extensively advantage is the time-lapse app, which with 10 strikes and beech is precisely integrated only as an app.
8) Speaking of time-lapse app ... The only mechanical shutter is relatively loud. Those coming from compact cameras, will be surprised, because these are used in electronic rather my knowledge and who comes from large DSLRs will be as surprised as you can lessen the noise in large enclosures better. In this regard, the NEX-5T is certainly by no means subtle.
All this whining at a high level. I love this camera and never give it to her :)
