Milt Thompson manages with this book to give the reader a sense of what constituted the X-15 program for a great technical and operational performance. In the early 60s, it was possible not only in the hypersonic flight envelope with Mach numbers well over 6 to advance, but with a manned aircraft to leave the Earth's atmosphere and in manual flight to re-enter the atmosphere, only to end up in extreme gliding. Here broke new ground in various fields and it was necessary to retain enormous risks to the touch. A great moment of engineer aviation! What makes the book especially worth reading, is Milt Thompson's personal perspective and its ability to very good nachvolllziehbar represent the complex relationships in the overall context. One can empathize with the reader in the cockpit and it's fun to get to know the peculiarities of the various test pilots. Highly recommended !!!
