Avidan, Asaf & The Mojos - Poor Boy / Lucky Man (Audio CD)

Customer Review

With The Reckoning of blessed with an extraordinary voice Israeli Asaf Avidan and his band The Mojos laid last year before a fine debut. While he was considered small, but fine tip with us, he was in his homeland already a star and there was the publication of his second plate Poor Boy / Lucky Man behind. Now the good part appears finally with us. And was the debut quite a good idea, there is a bit of everything more. More passion, more colorful and more refined arrangements and especially even more irresistible melodies.

The music is still the same and sounds so not to Israeli but so uramerikanisch as only imagine: the late sixties blues, folk and songwriter rock, sung by a voice when it comes to passion comparable with emotion guns of the brand Robert Plant and Janis Joplin (!), and in tone with David Surkamp (Pavlov's Dog) is. That alone already makes for a special recognition. But anyway it's just a part of the melodious oeuvre. Because the Mojos prepare her head a beautiful and finely woven tapestry of sound, in which a wheel is engaged with the other and there is a large whole.

A major strength of Poor Boy / Lucky Man is the exciting dramaturgy, which until the end of boredom raises from the beginning. The album begins with "Brickman" first fairly quiet and efficient before it surprisingly plunges into a kind of circus folk and they think they are in a tumble of confetti and balloons. The subsequent title track, however, is downright melancholic and lives next to the singing of the pleasant Cello undertones. A real highlight is the atmospheric and melodic wonderful "My favorite clown". The journey continues through the latent jazzy "The Ghost Of A Thousand Little Lies", which spontaneously coat a harsh with Hard Rock guitars. Such is also the Wolfmother-like Riffrocker "Jet Plane" or the crunchy and slightly soulful listening "Wasting My Time". But the greatest strength of Asaf Avidan & The Mojos are on this record is not necessarily denominated, but just the quieter moments - whether they are charged or pleasantly relaxed melancholic and exciting. Good examples: "Your Anchor", "Small Change Girl" and "Out in the cold".

Unusual and passion just so bursting with song and strong songs. Here goes both go hand in hand and made for great entertainment between Seelenbaumeln, departure and Mitheulen. Just great - nice to have such a thing still exists!
