The graphics of the game is at least as mixed as the reviews. The Settings I think overall very nice and imaginative illustrated, the sub-regions of the world have been diversified and look really great, also the village of Doolin was attractively staged. Extremely unfortunate thing is that the game has barely animated cut scenes and instead largely operated on comic style, in which various still images in a sort of slide show will be shown and the dialogs are displayed in speech bubbles. Whether this is to be understood as a creative element or style has been implemented due to lack of budget so, this remains questionable. Because it acts strangely out of place and inappropriate, and turns out to be well again and again as a real tension killer in terms of really great story and that's extremely annoying for the atmosphere of the game.
The story is as mentioned very well and certainly stands out from many competing titles from because the story as an Agatha Christie thriller gradually unfolds and is really extremely interesting and exciting.
The characters Ellen and Keats are well managed and, owing to their different points of view is an interesting contrast to each other. Generally I the character design but want to describe here as a solid.
The music of the game I felt as a very appropriate and pleasant, but in some cases it is something "special" and one or the other could perhaps stand out negatively. "Folklore" has a German language edition, the not exactly covered itself with glory. The dialogues are spoken extremely stiff and lifeless and sound more like pure reading. I have also tested an alternative English language edition (for switch PS3 in English, can be on the game menu itself, the language does not change), and unfortunately have to say that this is not a bit better. To this end, a thick minus point.
The gameplay offers refreshing ways, because here the so-called Folks have conquered and subsequently absorbed by using the SIXAXIS function. Absorbed Folks wander into your inventory and can be equipped as an offensive weapon. Altogether there are around 100 Folks in the game that can be leveled up by collecting certain items all - about too little "arsenal" Here nobody will therefore certainly can complain.
In addition, Ellen can be equipped with different costumes, which can be gradually find the game which have different barrier functions and also look really great!
Keats, however, has a sort of berserker mode, which slowly fills up in defeat and / or absorb Folks and is at full level can be activated manually. In this temporary condition he takes even less damage and is aimed at doing more damage to enemies.
As touched upon briefly binds controlling a movement sensors the SIXAXIS controller and demands from a partially quite a lot of tact and responsiveness. The difficulty of this function increases as the game progresses, but doable. The key assignment of the four action buttons (X, O, etc.) must be configured by the players themselves, as they can be assigned to already absorbed Folks from the inventory. Thus, the total control as easy to judge only the SIXAXIS function can sometimes be a challenge.
In addition to the main game are also some side quests to solve, some of which are extremely demanding in terms of difficulty.
Now I come to my however decisive main criticism: the game must be played through once with both characters in order to be completed can. This in itself I found not even matter if the characters do not have to exactly go through the same level and would have not largely about the same Folks (here there are only slight variations) and not exactly the same raid bosses have (here differ only the points but it remains visually the same boss).
That's what I call a corresponding motivation killer.
I started playing with Ellen and was already fairly advanced, as Ellen suddenly fell in story history into trouble and Keats had her come to the rescue. Too bad that Keats was about 10 hours of play far behind her, and thus once again everything had to go through what I had brought with Ellen behind me. Particularly annoying I found here is that you as Keats often gets the same Folks, as well as Ellen has this and nevertheless back the "original state" receives and must level up again. I had already buttered with Ellen several hours in the collection of items to level up their Folks and then I find it extremely frustrating, with Keats to obtain the same Folks and having to start this tedious odyssey from the front. Because I would have liked at least another Folks, because in this way really repeats the whole game again and lets each mercilessly with the hope of innovative changes to the first run in the rain.
Although the characters experience the storyline from different perspectives and therefore saved in each slightly different cut scenes, but these also motivate not just to re-playthrough, because they have a few differences from the first pass.
Conclusion: "Folklore" brings a great gameplay with innovative features with itself and brings quite fun, the player would not be forced to play through the title twice, with the second pass lacks any innovation is to offer monotony hardly. Too bad, because the game is apart from the voice and the comic cutscenes great, but the forced second pass added this title in my opinion, the coup de grace. Real shame because otherwise I would have awarded at least 4 stars without question.
