EXPERIENCE IN EARS SO FAR:
Sennheiser CX 400-II, Beyerdynamic DTX101iE.
First:
When I changed from the CX 400-II two years ago on the DTX101iE, this was a revelation. In all areas of Beyerdynamic plugs surpassed the Sennheiser. But after this I gradually fell apart (design flaw: were just stuck, not glued) to buy and I lost the matching inserts, I decided once again due to the excellent sound experience Beyerdynamic In-Ears. I made this purchase directly from the manufacturer's website.
Tip: Some music stores offer at the same price a 3-year warranty on its entire range.
CONSTRUCTION / ACCESSORIES:
The included hard case protects the earphones optimal, is nevertheless nice compact and looks dibasic. Also resolve some seven inserts the most likely to provide for all ear sizes for optimum grip / sound. However, the rest of the accessories really opens up not me: The flexible eartips of compley thick sound on too strong. Also for the adapter 2x3,5mm jack the very least will probably really have a use. Instead of 0,90m cable extension could have been even better, to give the possibility to replace the entire cable to the earphone or alternatively to use a non-replaceable cable. So you hang by connecting an additional weight on the cable, which in turn makes it necessary depending on the application to use the enclosed clip. When mountain biking I have also found that the ribbon cable to the wind delivers more by the lower stiffness and the flat shape. The result is an additional slightly elevated train to the earplugs. I will therefore get me an extension cord so I can run below the clothes the cable on the body. However, it is very hard to get this kind of extension (3.5mm jack cable to female, approx 1.5m, angled). According to the manufacturer, the cable (which is generally a little reminiscent of linguini noodles) provide the way two advantages: both the Verknotungsgefahr and cable noise to be reduced. The former, I can confirm the latter was never a problem even when DTX101. These cables act a little fragile - I hope this impression is deceptive.
Still more metal was used for the cladding in comparison with the DTX101iE and the back of the plug is now flat. The earphones are indeed correspondingly heavier, but have a very high already in the hands - it's really a pleasure to press the earpiece in the ear cups (never thought that I should use it sometimes may bring joy).
KLANG:
Generally have in-ear models over conventional plugs the advantage that they can reach a significantly more spacious sound. However, Bass also act a little more dominant, depending on the piece of music. Important for optimum sound, the right ear pads and a multi-band equalizer. Here extensive experimentation is called for.
I am very impressed by the sound of DX160er: heights are very finely depicted resolution and velvety and exceed the DTX101iE in this area again a good deal. Even shrill rock songs do not sound annoying. The midrange seems quite balanced and not undersized - here the DTX101, however, are equal. The new top model of spatial sounds throughout the bass. Butter soft and yet very defined deep bass are reproduced, kick bass "kick" really and because of the enormous pressure in the frequency cellar arises often some live concert feeling a. However, individual instruments go in broad soundscape occasionally a little below and the bass often is too dominant. This is as mentioned above part, to the in-ear design. I have the frequency bands at times quite significantly lowered in the bass range via an equalizer to counteract this effect.
With regard to the level of resistance of these earphones is also again an entire step forward. Sounded overrides the DTX101er above a certain volume and inaccurate bass, you can still pull (sufficient amplifier power required) the volume control when using the DX160 in direct comparison a little upward until these then reach their limits.
CONCLUSION:
The DX160iE is earphones, who know how to seduce you with its excellent sound. However, workmanship and design are first-class. Depending on the application, the mentioned restrictions on cable flexibility can be distracting. Given these factors, the earphones are currently probably one of the best in its price range - which applies, however, continues to be well for the former top model DTX101iE.
