Great voice, unfortunately, nothing else

Gregory Porter has an incredibly charismatic voice. The comparison with Nat King Cole is absolutely in my opinion, okay. Above a certain altitude, unfortunately inflexible, variability in vocal expression does not exist. For just an incredibly beautiful vocal sound. Point.
Incentive to buy for me was apart from the good reviews of the first song, "No Love Dying". Se wrong with this song all. Good smooth jazz, great arranged, played great. What then unfortunately quite disappointed is the entire rest of the album. The band plays pretty listless in almost every second, sometimes act the recordings, as if you had it in the studio and during rehearsals hurry. Too often go awry Grooves not agree common Hits.
To give just one example:
In the beautiful se ballad "Water Under Bridges" is allowed a mistake in the piano, the game would not technically have to be (at 2.14). I'm sure no error counter, but such an unmotivated concentration error should no one presses on a studio album. The ballad, incidentally, still is a masterpiece!
If the sound, and that is a disaster when you consider that the label Blue Note does not belong to the little unknown. A bad reverb tail on the voice (not in every song) and the voice does not sound like part of the group. The piano too quiet, the drum set does not sound natural, the bass insufficient to Bass. Nothing matches the sound to another. In places, the disc sounds, as if to make a jazz album, a pop producer. Too bad, because a few pieces are compositionally very good indeed.
