+ Modern design
+ Rounded body shape with smooth transitions
+ More pleasant sound
+ Somewhat higher sensitivity
The unit has in relation to the UV-5R Plus but certainly also weaknesses:
- Bad read display (de facto only when the backlight)
- Plastic odor during the first days (derived from the rubber, orange side panels)
- Unwieldy antenna (too sensitive and too long; cap has fallen equal)
- No continuous broadcast reception (for incoming radio signal goes unit in pulse-like noise above)
Overall my UV-5R Plus for everyday use is he prefers. Presumably this is above all a matter of taste.
PS: You should know that both devices have the wrong ring frequency (2100Hz approx instead 1750Hz). The opening of 1750Hz relay stations is thus not possible. In addition, as a precaution even to point out that the operation of this device ONLY LICENSED radio amateurs are allowed.
Addendum of 09/01/2015:
There's a way to create a 1750Hz tone ringing by the "A / B" button is pressed while holding down the PTT key (= PTT key).
So: press Send key and "A / B" produced a 1750Hz tone ringing. Pressing instead the "Band" button, a 2100Hz tone ringer. Thanks to "Banana" for the hint!
