The author, Robert Gordon Wasson and his wife Valentina Pavlovna Guercken, were the first foreigners to be invited to participate in the Mazatec ritual of "sacred mushroom" (Teonanacatl) and to ingest the "flesh of the gods." The study and the (re) discovery of the fungi that cause strange visions or the Vision, will work in their lives.
The first body of the document mentions the considerable research of the couple, from etymologies and meanings of the word mushroom in all known languages, instead has given this amazing plant in human history. The first track is followed dialectical relation mycophilia / mycophobia; which in particular shows that the effects of "champignonisation" almost unspeakable in the language of Molière as in any other European language, as our words to describe a similar condition - drunkenness, are pejorative: "It is amazing that the modern civilized man finds an outlet for his anxiety in a drug [alcohol] to whom it apparently demonstrates little respect! ". What Wasson discovered in southern Mexico is diametrically opposed. In the Mazatec Indians, psychedelic mushroom called '' nti'sitho ":" 'nti' expresses respect and affection, and "'SITHO" means "that which springs" This respect and affection is perceptible in the silence surrounding the fungus. as in all the precautions taken at its ritual consumption .. and for good reason, since it would be an entheogen substance (neologism inducing the idea of the divine)!
The second document provides the brilliant hypothesis Wasson on what may be the Soma-plant boasted that divinity in metrical hymns of the Rig-Veda, the oldest Hindu texts called the Vedas.
