The writing is dense, searched, complex (the translation has not been easy and I have not always been comfortable with turns of phrase). The author goes dune era to another in the same chapter, in the next paragraph, without putting any indication of place or date subtitle. Of course it quon bed, allows us to quickly locate facts but it's sometimes confusing and troubling. All the more that nothing is really simple. Indeed, whenever lon think the situation is finally clear, a new branch or a unique twist into place and take us on other routes.

The hero is handled by individuals in shadow, tossed to suit his discoveries lemportent still further, towards other possibilities, other risks. He, that might seem a bit clueless in douvrage first takes consistency before our eyes and wins some form of maturity without either in the excess. There are very credible. Other players are also very realistic, most with a share dambivalence we discern gradually over the pages.
For as Chris Napier, the reader is "having" skillfully maneuvered through the clues and revelations dropper who have slipped through the pages.
Once again, the importance of the past proves crucial in a novel. Is it all comes to know? Not necessarily, but too obscure, too cheating, too transform the truth, imbalances are widening and the impact on families are terrible (especially the next generations), friends, neighbors.
The atmosphere is that of the small countries of Cornwall, a cozy atmosphere, the seashores with the wind, spray, wild vegetation and cloudy as the only horizon. People sobservent, are jealous, is watching, sapprécient, hate, or is jugentparlent are silent or are in between. Police and judges are not in the foreground. We will still see the opportunity that it is sometimes easier to resolve cases without much searching, based on vague beliefs, which allow to get rid of all deepening convoluted requiring much more energy.
This novel is for me a real success, Robert Goddard managed to surprise me and keep me in suspense, I kept asking myself which way he was going to guide me, what jallais glimpse how jallais interpret it and what are my conclusions and those of Chris Napier.
This book dates from 1997 (original language) and one wonders why it was translated na quen 2014.
