And Love II, here was I with Love, which already last spring as a free download available in the package, has become great again, just like the first two albums. What we have here, of course, no longer to do with fun pop punk from the early days, AVA is more like the big brother of Blink 182, playful, atmoshärischer, but always absolutely catchy. No music for Desert Party, rather for the day after or for the long drive after the party. Rock on the one hand very spacey with many keyboards, on the other side. I do not know what to call this kind of music best. Tom had once said that he envisions a mix of U2, Radiohead and Pink Floyd. And so silly this list at first sight is, it makes sense.
I LOVE there is as I said already for almost two years. Those who do not come into contact, which should perhaps listen to the following highlights: EPIC HOLIDAY, Soul Survivor, Letters to God, SOME ORIGINS OF FIRE. In the usual suspects video portals there are incidentally some highly recommended videos. LOVE II will remain on the chosen path, generally the songs are perhaps a bit crisper and shorter, the keyboards are dosed something.
SATURDAY LOVE's intro sounds to me for months in the ears, as it was used as a teaser for the film. Then the guitars put a, a very nice opener, in the spirit of 'Where The Streets have no name'.
SURRENDER and ANXIETY are the two singles of the album, very catchy, catchy tunes remain hanging immediately. The lyrics are perhaps a little too simple. The thought comes to me again and again ever since the first album. On the other hand, might need genial not always be the same complicated.
My Heroine (It's Not Over) takes his foot off the accelerator a little, a mid-tempo song, again with a wonderful chorus.
MOON AS MY WITNESS begins very slowly before it explodes. Perhaps the best vocal performance of Tom for a long time.
Dry your eyes. Reminiscent of the melody a bit of 'Everythings Magic' from the second album. However, the small self-reference harms the song is not really, he has a wonderful dynamic.
The Revelator is just great. Crisp bass-heavy intro and entzückige Bridge and again of course a wonderful chorus.
ONE LAST THING. Short, crisp, good.
INERTIA. Donnerde drums driving the song forward, the keyboard sounds are a bit dirty and the guitar Tom delivers some innovative sounds from. Hopefully not a one outlier but the next stage of AVA sounds.
BEHOLD A PALE HORSE. A somewhat slower song, to breathe. Not really bad, but packed between two highlights.
ALL THAT WE ARE is the last highlight and the culmination of the album. Here the Pink Floyd promise is also for the first time redeemed ;-), the song and thus the album ends in a magnificent two-minute solo.
I save all comparisons with Blink 182 (which I also appreciate very much), there are certainly many critical voices again to this album and you can certainly analyze to death in search of self-citations, quotations of other bands and simple lyrics. In my ears which is the album and AVA but in itself does not do justice. Because AVA creates at least for me something very simple, the music is simply attractive and leaves a joyful than before, no idea where it comes from and why this is so, somehow it finds me direct access to whatever. Tom has made many times next to something more complicated statements a very simple and that he wants to make music with AVA, which makes one to stretch their hands in the air. This is exactly ...
PS. The film, which is not included in this version is highly recommended if you do not necessarily need a simple linear story. Visuel he is simply stunning and has a story that clearances can be food for thought. Those who want to treat the Deluxe package, but should better reflect the AVA Store, takes a little longer by the shipment, but it costs only a fraction of what is offered here.
