Customer Review

This was at least my first association when I saw this album. Bob Dylan, the rebel (and hero) my Teenzeit, the beginning of the disastrous Vietnam War already prophesying (and not only to Richard Nixon's impeachment) sang "... even the President of the United States sometimes must have to stand naked." now interpreted songs of a somewhat controversial heroes of the then establishment ??

As much good stuff does not fit together - or does it? The more I dealt with the subject, the more matured in me the idea that this whole thing is not yet so seemingly outlandish.

Dylan was one of my heroes of the 60s and 70s; in particular because of its meaningful and critical lyrics. At Sinatra I have not found until the end of the 90 - completely different genre, but also interesting. Performances especially with Dean Martin and Sammy Davis jr. In the '70s, among others in Las Vegas had indeed impressed me due to the atmosphere as a young man, but not convinced. Meanwhile, I have found access to Sinatra and his music, especially in terms of musical (co-) imprint of an era. By contrast, Dylan's works from this century have me rather disappointed, and the significantly aged not only because of his voice.

Undisputed both Dylan and Sinatra have all characteristic articulations with very high recognition value - just like Cocker, Cohen, Lennon, etc. Dylan's aged voice harmonizes now quite the mainly originating from the 40s and 50s songs; (or matured?) in particular because they exempt from Jenkins' opulent arrangements for big bands and mainly on an accompaniment with bass and steel guitar were reduced and match Dylan's current vocal possibilities.

He obviously wants to connect (or tribute?) To create "good old" time this, because with his body and his mind is indeed matured and perhaps developed a certain nostalgia for the days when things were easier and the world. He seems to want these recordings inculcate past; They originated in the "Capitol Studios' in Los Angeles, CA, where the majority of the Sinatra-versions was recorded and thus goes the same route as McCartney in" Kisses on the bottom ", what engineer Al Schmitt worked as well as to Sinatra's last panels.

Interesting is the interview that gave Dylan the American retiree-lobbying organization AARP for Album: "I love these songs ... To trash thesis songs would be sacrilegious (Sinatra) ... is the mountain you have to climb Frank.. singing to you -. not at you I 've always wanted to sing to somebody As far as touching him goes, nobody touches him ... before I listened to rock'n'roll big band music ... "From the.. whole interview, a deep admiration for these songs of the "Great American Songbook" and Sinatra as interpreters.

Were it not precisely this story of Bob Dylan would, certainly not only I consider this album from the beginning with completely different eyes. For me, this is a similar question like "Is" sun "of Rammstein bad when it sings Heino or" sun "only good when it sings Heino?"

If one tries to separate songs and interpretations of the person and their vita, one obtains a positive approach to these recordings, which I, however, can not solve so far me to give more than four stars. Anyway, in my opinion, although a polarizing, but a good job.
