Overall, I would Bionic Commando as a very good mix of Metal Gear Solid and Spider Man called because of the music, the radio messages, the cool hero, really cool bosses and the staging is reminiscent of the old MGS games. The oscillating mechanism is reminiscent at first glance while at the Spider Man games, but is much more sophisticated and requires at the beginning of a longer training period, makes it but a lot of fun once you've internalized it.
The story is of course not nearly as diverse and sprawling as MGS, yet cinematically staged and exciting until the end. In Bionic Commando, the focus still lies precisely on entertaining and very fun gameplay, as it really should be, but many modern games often fall into the background in favor of more cinematic and more complex stories.
Conclusion: Bionic Commando definitely one of the good action games and I find it really sad that it is so lost in the crowd. Mir has in any case made it so much fun that I've played through it again after the first playthrough on Normal on the highest difficulty with all trophies, which was really not easy.
