The Suburbs (Audio CD)

Customer Review

That a band that there are just first 8 years, already published with their debut album, that only six years after its release already is considered by many as a classic and as one of the best albums of the past decade is incredible. If only 3 years later with the follow-up album then makes immortal all the more impressive. Arcade Fire have managed both and are the most luminous star on top of the Independent sky. So of course, the entire world has been waiting for critics, the new album by the Canadians. Since both previous albums include me among the best discs of the last Jaher, of course I was just as excited.

The great cover makes in each of its variations much therefore, the evaluation of Rolling Stone or the Music Express promises a world-class album. The Openener "The Suburbs" is very good therefore advance with loose drums and piano. These Win Butler's distinctive vocals, but here so soft and gentle as never before. A wonderful start for a disc that has been brought about so much longed for. Unfortunately, the album can already at the very beginning, the high level not hold. Ready To Start is unfortunately every time past me to grab me or without even touching somehow. What Ready To Start does not create, Modern Man creates at least in part. Rococo is the first real step in the mediocrity, shame really. However comes with songs like Empty Room and City With No Children an upswing. 2 songs on absolutely a very high level that can compete easily with the masterpieces Funeral and Neon Bible by Arcade Fire. Unfortunately this trip was too short in the genius of Arcade Fire and marred with songs like Half Light I + II and Suburban War again. By Month of May there be at least one halfway decent rocker, but everything is not compelling enough comes in all. Wasted Hours, Deep Blue, We Used To Wait, Sprawl I and II are then finally no more than a good average, but these are provided by the wonderfully beautiful, but way too short outro song in the shadows.

What I hoped for before? I have not hoped that Arcade Fire copy their magnificent first two albums. Also, do not necessarily mean that The Suburbs both strikes. What I had hoped for, was a ravishing, heartwarming and wonderful long suburb Symphony, with an incomparable magic. Unfortunately, I was disappointed in that respect. The album does have some great highlights (see Empty Room, The Suburbs, Modern Man, City With No Children) and a few more nice melodies. Total failures there is not even. But unfortunately just too much average, which I think is incredibly unfortunate. I now have almost half a year trying hereinzufinden in the album to dive in and find the magic that seemingly have all found besides me is ... that's me, unfortunately, failed.

Now the question arises, how many stars I forgive, says the head 3, but the heart says 4. Since heart is always better than head, I forgive in the hope that the next album will be better after all not so bad 4 star.
