The first time I heard Y'akoto when she was the opening act of Joy Denalane end of 2011 - and I was immediately entranced. On one hand, she looked on stage presence, unsophisticated and authentic, on the other hand it was also talking on the merchandise stand very personable in dealing with their newfound fans. Back then Y'akoto had only the Tamba-EP in the luggage, the more tense I therefore awaited the release of "Baby Blues".
And what should I say? Through most of the songs a sense pulls that fills me with melancholy. Y'akoto packaged the songs in a warm light smoky voice that sounds a lot older than the young musician at the age ... Easier and more pop tracks, however, are few and rare on Baby Blues. Let us mention here that perhaps rhythmically strong "Good better best" but also the jazzy "Tonight". Quiet Songs like "What makes you strong" or marching rhythm brought forward and politically remarkable first single, "Tamba", which is about an African child soldiers, as well as go to the ear.
All in all, Y'akoto with "Baby Blues" (even if the superlative advertising so heavy and a bit tiring at the same time sounds) sensational album that no easy-listening Mukke but music that is causing a stir. The young artist has completely convinced me with all its musical facets, as a songwriter, singer and live performer. The production (at, among others, Max Herre has worked by friends) is perfectly managed. There are to release a short tour of Germany that should "Baby Blues" promote further - who has the time and inclination: Must go! Y'akoto is at the beginning of her career - and promises for my taste a few more surprises. Bravo!
By the way: There is also a downloadable version of the big apple Deluxe Baby Blues. Then include the bonus track: "Leap in the dark". This can also purchase individually. A ballad with radio and worn. This song, however, is also included on the now new downloadable "Without you" EP ...
