To see the long collaborative Izumi Tateno with the Finlandia label and the equally impressive list of pieces he recorded Scandinavian composers, one might be surprised to see Izumi Tateno roussillonnes walk on the shores of the Mediterranean. It was here that he came yet addressed by recording piano pieces by a French composer of the late nineteenth, Déodat Séverac today unfortunately unknown to the public. Pity indeed! ... If it is said, by listening to these little pieces for piano and few suites that had Séverac compound is in tribute, or inspired by its region, because they are beautiful and deserve not to be forgotten. Listening to these short pieces often, we think of Debussy, Hahn or Fernando or even Camille Saint-Saëns ... these French composers of the same era when the masterly behind an apparent candor all best staging it has the charms and the languor of the sunny province, as in these small rooms "on vacation" that seem small light distractions. But there is also something in Séverac expressionist, an impetuous temperament which sometimes erupts turn of a phrase or in the suites that are more expressive "Cerdaña, picturesque Etudes for Piano" or "The Song of the Earth" which so would do more to consider Ravel or Chabrier. Izumi Tateno evokes all the buttons with gusto and great restraint, without seeking or blatant expression or the affected sweetness. His playing is very calm, dull, leaving all the space compositions to reveal and all color shades unfold.
Finally, one wonders whether to lament see the French despise these wonderful musicians Music Séverac, or if it is gratifying to discover through the eyes of a Japanese ... thinking that sometimes, our culture is never more beautiful than in the eyes of foreigners!
