- A transmitter and receiver. I recommend to start with the 6 Lot Carson Reflex Stick. Costs around 70 Euro is, without interference by the 2.4 GHz and has (very important!) 2 self-centering stick with analogue trim. The latter is needed later in order to use functions such as the gun, the MG and the lighting. Futaba also has a matching 2.4GHz Funke on offer, but this will cost more than 100 euros.
- Then a 7.2V, NiMH battery must be found. At least 3000 mAh he should have. Mine has 3,600, so I can have 40-minute drive.
- A charger for the battery, if you do not have one
- 8 Eneloop AA batteries for the transmitter
- 3 doses Tamiya TS5 (Olive Drab)
- 1 can of Tamiya Metal Primer
- 1 can of Tamiya Surface Primer
- 3 doses Tamiya TS 13 (clearcoat gloss)
- 1 can of Tamiya TS 80 (matt varnish)
- 1 pot Tamiya XF 62 (Olive Drab for brushes)
- Tamiya CA Cement (ie in the manual "synthetic rubber adhesive" :-) but superglue)
- Tamiya Liquid Plastic Cement
- Tamiya Reinforced Aluminium Tape
- Tamiya Putty, for filling of seams
- Tamiya Black Double Sided Tape (3 strips are already in the kit, but is not enough)
- Plasticizer for Decals
- Liquid masking and / or Maskiertape
- A high-quality protective mask for painting
- Small stuff, like brushes, tweezers, small side cutter, craft knife, sandpaper, etc.
Convert all together, and you come to the said 200 Euro. Of course modelers have one or the other already in the house.
The construction of the tank is not too difficult. The manual is almost perfect, a couple of things I would do differently in hindsight, but these are minor points. A little model making experience should already have. It must be protected hundreds of small little screw with loctite, much plastic model is on the agenda and the RC-Electronics will be installed properly. But, as I said, the manual is tiptop and in flawless German. Until now, I had a small Warhammer 40,000 army, and a few parking zone foam flyer on the credit side of experience. So not too much. Nevertheless, I am satisfied with the result (see customer image above).
The construction I would estimate at around 80 hours. In particular, the paint was expensive, lack Airbrush remained my only cans. It took 9 meetings for painting, which is in my opinion the minimum with drying, decals mount, clear coat, etc. Overall, I built almost 8 months at the tanks. Now I am employed and have family, so I divided all the work on countless small craft evenings. If you are thinking otherwise and sacrifice a holiday for crafting, I would say: Minimum 2 weeks (5 days at the building and 9 for painting). But that's sporty.
One more point: What distinguishes the manufacture tanks of the many 120 Euro toy tanks, which usually also bring features like exhaust smoke and fire function? I would say: The long-term durability, the weight and general significance are here better. By prototypical suspension of the rollers in combination with the high weight traction in the terrain is excellent for example. On YouTube there is to some beautiful videos. The gears and bearings are very high quality and smooth-running and wear hardly. And: You can retrofit the Tamiya Panzer with the Battle system, and then fight out realistic battles (tiger beats in reach and clout as the Sherman, if the correct class of the model is set). I do not want the plastic tank here but generally speak ill: Heng Long also has some very nice models that you can still spice up a little. A matter of taste.
Conclusion: 100% buy recommendation - if you spend around 650 euros and bring some skill and patience, you will be rewarded with a great RC-Sherman-tank. To play for small children I would not recommend it. There are too many filigree small parts to it (you can, however, almost all parts reorder, if something should go wrong bit). Now I save at the next Tamiya tank. The Pershing should it be (the deal with my wife was: if I ever build this martial vehicles, then only of "the good" So fall Tiger, KV-1, etc. ever gone.). Have fun building!
