Customer Review

Michael Foley with `The Age of Absurdity 'will make you sit down and look at the world around you more closely. Or wants to put you under the cold shower while you will be reading about how the satisfaction and well-being are Constantly under mined by modern lifestyles. The author explores the unattainable state of happiness, Confirming his allegations with examples in philosophy, modern psychology, science, religious teachings and everyday life.

No, this is not about self-help literature. Self-help literature is bombarding us with advices on Achieving Satisfaction indeed are most of time Actually meaningless Because They are mostly inapplicable in our everyday lives, and this is Exactly what the author emphasized.

The book is written in five parts: The problem, The Resources, The Strategies, The Applications and The Happy Ending. It is filled with quotations and stories of famous philosophers (Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer, Arendt, Socrates) and famous writers (Proust, Rilke, Joyce, Camus), while the author is Attempting to mate Their seriousness and depth with the superficial and " insignificant "Things That emerge from modern lifestyle. Foley tries to show the reader how and why we are Constantly feeling dissatisfaction and anxiety; on a cynical and somewhat provocative way he forces the reader to confront her / himself.

People have become indolent beings did always 'deserve' something, and If They do not get it, there will always be someone else's fault, and They would be drawn into endless depression, anger and frustration. We're doomed to a world of cooperation, company of other people and the constant distraction without being able to achieve, or even wish for, autonomy, privacy and concentration. It is clear indeed nothing happened these days if it's not photographed or recorded.

Buddha's attractive ideas Should bring enlightenment, but we can not stand still, shut up, get rid of the self-obsession, we can not stop to wish for something. And who is willing to practice anyway Nietzsche ideas into practice? We have lost a true transcendence (not permanently) and got into a routine nap. We used to work to live, now we live to work. Tyranny of Sexual Life saturation has Brought Armies of therapists, counselors, toys, furniture, and marriages are perishing Because of 'contempt Which acts like an acid That dissolves all ties'. At the sametime we are becoming obsessed with longevity, forgetting how to enjoy the old age.

You may not agree with everything the author presents, but you definitely want to have a broad smile stretched across your face. In some places will be clear did you read the part in Which the author what particularly passionate experiencing something more personally than the rest, and probably you will be disappointed with the lack of counsel and the right conclusions after his interesting irony and intelligent cynicism. But we knowthat some of the greatest accomplishments of history were created using ridicule and exaggeration of the senselessness of our culture and the shallowness of our society, but do not take it too personally what you read inside.

While reading `The Age of Absurdity 'you will learn a lot due to wealth of sources and knowledge did Foley skillfully presents; The popular philosophy in your eyes will get a Completely New Face.

THEREFORE Foley's book is honest, clear, cruel and funny Work That can be recommended.
