I really liked reading the first chapter, the setting and the characters are adorable. Then, it somehow Tends to lose itself in endless talks, quarrels, troubles and conversation. An ode to life? Hardly, I would say. The characters are barely better off in the end, yet alive. I would not read it in class, here I'd prefer Hornby's Slam. In my opinion, Hornby gives the game away a little. After the first chapter it gets demanding and weird, the four partners in crime turn out to behave and act very stereotypically. It is, HOWEVER, one of the famous novels in contemporary literature and reading it is indeed catchy, up to A Certain Point at least.
