Christmas gift and makes big disappointment on the machine but not on the sony ebooks service.
Obviously the format is proprietary so it is not compatible with anything (especially not with kindle!)
The sony ebooks offer is very poorly designed: the US site & the French site are waterproof: you can not buy on the one and the other, a French with a French CB can not buy on the US site vice versa. In addition the offer is poor and very basic.

A definitely avoid if you are looking for a supply of university books ...
