Humax iCord HD vs Technisat HD S2 DigiCorder

Since 1.5 years, I took advantage of the Technisat HD S2 DigiCorder. With this device, I was very pleased. He ran all the time stable and has not crashed a single time. Since my wife quite excessively programmed broadcasts, but it often came to recording overlap. By become larger range of HD channels the device came to its technical limits. Although designed as a twin tuner, unfortunately only one receiving part is HD-ready.

The alternative would have been S2 Plus the successor DigiCorder HD. At least in theory. Why not practical? The reason is simple. TechniSat has changed its sales policy. Online and so at realistic prices only devices with a ridiculously small 160er hard drive are available. The versions with larger hard drives are available only on the stationary "retailers" to astronomical prices. Retrofitting with a plate 500 would indeed be around 30, - Euro have been favorable but connected to the loss of warranty.

After a lengthy investigation, I have decided on the Humax HD iCord. Due to some negative reviews, I made the appointment with mixed feelings. All the more, I am pleased that I can not confirm the negative things. I summarize my experience compared to Technisat device briefly together.

Benefits:
+ Definitely fancier look
+ Device display larger and more readable
+ Universal Remote-quality, logically structured and with better pressure point
+ Much better and more intuitive operating concept
+ Fancier and more legible on-screen menus
+ 4 different channels can be recorded simultaneously during a 5th transfer is considered. This
also works with HD channels properly, without stuttering or dropouts.
+ Very effective cooling, the unit is not even lukewarm
+ Permanent Timeshift (I have extremely missed the Technisat)
+ Hotkeys for screen format and HDMI Resolution
+ Very good manual, although you really do not need ...

Tie:
o video and audio quality at a high level
o fan has the same volume as the Technisat (is ok but should be improved)

Disadvantages:
- Lack of editing function
- Lack of standby clock

The equipment has been delivered by the way with the latest firmware 1:00:18. Software errors or malfunctions, I could not tell yet.

Conclusion: The Humax HD iCord acts very mature and provides a good picture on my 47 inch Full HD TV. In conventional PAL program can of course cause as little surprise as the Technisat device. Given the flexible recording options and brilliantly simple operating concept, the price / performance ratio is better than that of most competitors.
