Stevenson tells romance -and part- Modestine his journey with a donkey. The first part (crossing of Gevaudan) is excellent: full of humor and freshness, friendly encounters and adventures. The second part (on land Camisard) is more about a historical perspective, it is less pungent than the first. The preface of Gilles Lapouge is also interesting and far-fetched.
