Misogyny apart (as seems Brassens), we must admit that the great French song is rather the prerogative of the male ... But there is Barbara, the only woman to compete seriously with Brel, Ferré, Ferrat, Reggiani, Gainsbourg and Uncle George mentioned above. But we must admit that the albums of the dark lady is not always perfect, and his live recordings sometimes suffer from shortcomings that undermine vocal songs. This box 3 CD appears to be a piece of choice to discover this universe requiring the melancholy beauty. Barbara has no equal to sing the nostalgia of childhood ("In the wood of Saint-Amand", "My childhood"), to celebrate his loved ones ("A small cantata", "Rémusat", "Nantes" ) and bring trouble to love ("Because I love you", "Vienna", "Say when you coming back?"). But she also knows make us smile, through light stories she tells of unlikely encounters ("Monsieur Victor," "Joyeux Noel") without forgetting that above all, the lady in black is still the poet of despair, which do not hesitate to set to music the most serious subjects: incest ("Black Eagle"), AIDS ("Sid'amour to death"), violence ("Perlimpinpin"), drugs ("The man in red coat" ), depression ("The pain of living") or suicide ("Insomnia") with incomparable majesty. In addition to the great classics of the artist ("Peter", "Lady", "The black sun", "Gottingen", "Marienbad"), one can enjoy in this best of some lesser known gems like "Gauguin" (rending tribute his friend Brel), "Living poem" (his final masterpiece, arranged by Jean-Louis Aubert), or "The island of mimosas" (duet with Gerard Depardieu). Barbara devoted his life to his audience, which it will declare his love with one of his most moving songs, "My greatest love story is you." A public that remain inconsolable at the death of the singer, who died in November 1997 at the age of 67 years. She leaves us a beautiful work, intense and sincere.
