The enormous qualities of this group are well established but it brings us his most diverse album. This can unnerve even alienate regulars. Here is a very personal light: 1. "Uprising" is a great start for this album. Rhythmic, energizing. The lyrics of "winner" that breathe Energy ("they will not control us ... we will be victorious", etc.) as on the track "Butterflies and hurricanes" ("best, you've got to be the best, etc. ") of the album" Absolution ". To listen to before going to request an increase to his boss! 2. "Resistance". After an ethereal intro comes a series of short musical phrases on the piano, which I personally am not a fan (and his then irritates me a bit). Everything works out as soon as the electric guitar takes front and the chorus with this recurring answer "It Could be wrong" is leading. 3. "Undisclosed Desires" is the title I was most worried about at first listen. Is actually M.Bellamy singing during the first seconds? It comes images of George Michael at the time of Faith. Wet poster images for young newly pubescent girls. Puzzled, I am. And yet I do not hate ... 4. "United States of Eurasia" is a very good piece, powerful, epic. It ends with a beautiful interpretation of Nocturne No. 2 Chopin on a fighter aircraft noise (and a missile?). The loan may seem easy since virtually everyone loves Chopin. But it fits well and comes to give a dramatic touch to this evocation of an immensely rich Eurasian continent (culturally, demographically, economically, etc.), but tormented. My CD Nocturnes played by Claudio Arrau now feels dust. 5. "Guiding Light" sounds that balance we feel the '80s (think "keyboards songs" Van Halen, for example); synthesizers and drum sounds that reverberate like a disused warehouse, etc. Even the guitar solo part is fairly typical of what were some hardrockers this period. In short, great in small doses cool effects but can quickly become pompous. Ideal for booms Sophie Marceau. 6. Can "Unnatural Selection" comes up with a really original guitar riff; it reminds a lot we heard on tracks like "New Born", but the second half of this piece, more inspired, caught up nicely. 7. "MK Ultra" is also quite banal. So no comment. 8. "I Belong to You" is an amazing love song, bouncing, giving the spotlight to the acoustic piano. It must be "player" open, to appreciate humor. Especially the central part seems like a dream, a call supported by an inspiring MUSE. I had to watch the booklet to understand the words in French ... (Ah, so it was "Answer my tenderness"). Surprisingly, a song that works really well. 9. "Exogenesis Symphony" is a beautiful piece of music, rich, colorful, expressive. A huge collage of 13mn, a succession of highly differentiated movements in which one feels the influence of any "classical music".
To love this album, it may be that he had no particular expectations. It took me 5 days of intensive listening to appreciate this album, and I do not know if it will last. Is it a "commodity" perishable? We'll see, for now, I take. I find this more than adequate overall album. I put 4 stars, relative to the first 3 Muse studio albums, which I would have easily awarded the maximum score. Honestly, I would perhaps not out my credit card if this "article" had not contained a DVD of the "making-of". This film is directed precisely on the model of the one that accompanied the album "Absolution". Just over 40 minutes of very interesting studio sessions.
