What to say about Sgt Pepper that has not already been said? How to express what this album has brought to modern music and all great ideas it raised afterwards? Initially it was an idea that McCartney wanted to break with the traditional image of the Beatles. What a shame Paul has put together? What rock sound has yet been unearthed John? Or what will be the new hit of the four boys in the wind? On arrival a concept album, The Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, but more importantly, a place in the pantheon of rock music. I'm not much risk by saying that this album is THE BEST ROCK ALBUM OF ALL TIME, although I prefer Abbey Road (but this is to give an objective opinion). A legendary album because it addresses all the issues inherent in pop music, and is an inexhaustible source of ideas as brilliant as each other for all musicians. How not to bow to Paul rock intro followed by pop hymn to friendship what "With a little help from my friends"? How not to succcomber psychedelia inspired Lennon "Lucy in the sky with diamonds"? At this stage of the album, we already have trouble believing it, and it is not over! The génialissime "Getting better" Paul announces the rhythmic pop that will be taken up by many groups and artists of the late twentieth century (one of the most inspired tracks on the album). The charming "Fixing a hole" and yet we swim in the very pop sound (we forget the controversy that it would be a fix of heroin, as they pass on LSD initials for "Lucy in the sky with diamonds "). Violins in want you here with "She's leaving home" (listen to the title Brian Wilson have renounced any attempt to match the talent of the Beatles), while the side A ends with the incomparable "For the benefit of Mr. Kite "(a favorite of Lennon songs). Nevermind very Indian "Within you without you" by Georges (yet sublime) to watch the tube jazzy Paul "When I'm 64" and so very British and pop "Lovely Rita" (listen to the voice and the piano! ). "Good morning" and that's all the noise of an alarm clock with fanfare that heralds the culmination of the work: "A day in the life". Beautiful! Grandiose! Sublime! Flat On! A cry! Any pop music condensed into five minutes. The best Beatles song? My favorite ... Sergeant Pepper is all this into thirteen pieces. A unity in diversity, a tube to each piece and "A day in the life" ... "I read the news today oh boy!".
