According to the self-observing systems theory to which Luhmann has resolutely devoted to the end of its trajectory, Guy portrays his remarks on the distinction between distinctions (rather than between inventoried parts of the world). JSGuy therefore defends the idea that globalization has existed since the second half of the 20th century, when the term first appeared. She assumed the constitution of the world as a semantic planet earth, and man as a species, which has no equivalent in the mode of social structure (layered) of the past.
The functionally differentiated society (which is global by definition, without excluding borders and segmentation of the political system) was first described by the term modernity to oppose the reduced complexity of the past and tradition, a new and unpredictable future, delivering the promise answers to unsolved problems of today. Globalisation is the new term she uses to describe: to distinguish global processes (including central comparison extends to the surface of the planet) at the local inventory of unrealized possibilities or irrelevant.
The educational value of this angle of approach is harvested in the study of the thorny issue of the relationship between globalization and the welfare states. JSGuy argues that this report is actually a mutual intensification, not a downgrade of the second by the first, as is often asserted. The knowledge produced by the welfare states on themselves (their self-description) generates constantly new information and new selections: some states have passed legislation similar to that which is about to be voted here; these states have followed different / similar methods for furthering the objectives of the law, they have reaped X effects; some states experiencing stronger economic growth, others less, etc. The variety of choices in comparison targets allows as many bets in different perspective, and constantly increases the demand for new selections of information, formulation and understanding. It ensures doing social self-description by the recursive application of the global / local distinction, and structural coupling with psychic systems.
Guy's ambition is to advance the recognition - too modest - Niklas Luhmann in the French social theory, and he does it with a luxury unaffordable: the easy understanding. Luhmann reading difficulty is well known, and JSGuy avoids joining the commentators and supporters who feel the need to compete with the master to confuse the poor and exceed player.
