After the hard disks in rows fall into my HTPC decrepitude victim, I was happy about that I was given the opportunity to test the WD10EZRX from Western Digital. The "Green" in the item means that the hard drive is designed to save energy, what is ideal for HTPC, so the media PC to the TV and projector because of the long maturities. So I was able to correct a trail down the total power consumption. Of course, to be expected in the entire energy balance not insane power savings, but the hard drive is basically, as compared to graphics card and processor no energy hog. Star gets a bonus disk for the immense quiet operation. The "deceased" Hitachi hard drive you could, under certain circumstances (depending on temperature) but often much humming and chirping hear. The WD10EZRX is absolutely silent in my HTPC. The access time to play with a hard drive that serves as a data memory, of course, no parent role. The lower rotational speed, however, has not noticeably filed on the use, thus opening Movies affected. Presumably, this is also due to the generous cache. As a main board in a computer system which WD10EZRX is probably not the first choice, but the lower rotational speed of the disk is unlikely to significantly affect the smooth operation. The data throughput was determined using a Meßtool and comply with the manufacturers specifications.
Good, quiet and energy-efficient hard drive at a fair price. 5 Stars
