The light color is, as already described elsewhere, warmer than the Ixon, the total (by the way good at both) illumination uniform and visibly lighter. By stronger when Philips light scattering upward to recognize earlier along with the warmer (and therefore easier for the eye to be detected) illumination, especially about autumn in the dark forest stretches hanging branches also at higher speeds (road bike).
Basically enough at a moderate pace (up to 30 km / h) and dry the brightness level to 1 and about broken, smaller stones and timely identification similar to the roadway. At higher speeds (approximately downhill) or even on wet roads I take gladly the brightness level 2, which then, however, draws the faster battery drain by itself.
2 - 2 1/2 hours at level two are realistic, which I usually before recharging (approximately via mini USB cable to the workstation computer). Sometimes it is advisable to remove the batteries and a (good) charger separately reload / condition. This prevents different charge levels of individual batteries. It is well known breaks yes a "chain" (= here battery pack) always the Weakest Link. Ie. The burn time is also reduced by a single and composite not completely charged battery in the worst case.
Here we should also recognize that there are still different (Generation 2?) (As of fall 2014) - are versions on the market. These differ clearly regarding the enclosed Philips battery (2450 mAh vs. 2600 mAh strength) and with respect to the firmware of the lamp (by earlier or subsequent battery warning then "orange", "red", but plays in my experience - equally strong battery provided - to the actual remaining burn time based not matter).
The lamp itself is very stable with its aluminum housing and rugged (although this also slightly heavier than the Ixon IQ Premium 80-316 g vs. 205 g - each with batteries) and the new holder easily and quickly on and stake and should be secured safely. The installation, conversion and switch is, even with gloves, easy to operate, only hope that the rubber coating (and sealing) of the switch last long here. The backglare by the status light in the switch (green - orange - red) is also negligible in the dark.
TIP 1: In order to counteract the self-dazzling effect by scattered light, the reflector screen (happened about leaning forward with the bike or in the saddle on the mountain) I have a strip of black tape attached along the upper edge (s photo.).
TIP 2: A on the (plastic) lamp glass applied, appropriately tailored (favorable) thin, clear mobile phone screen film (about cheap for HTC HD2 - 6 pieces for 1 - 2) protects without affecting the luminosity, against scratches.
The Safe Ride 80 Lux is in my opinion still the currently approved for use on public roads, brightest and available with the best illumination cordless lamp.
