Okay to recognize Otto Klemperer in a leader-d'orchestre Beethoven symphonies offering one of the most inspired interpretations, recognized. Although we may prefer a more refined Karl Böhm and romantic, Otto Klemperer remains in the register "Beethoven's" absolute master. This set contains 10 CDs, in addition to symphonies, works for the stage, Openings: Fidelio, with Leonore 3 (as before Fidelio); The Creatures of Prometheus; Coriolanus; The Consecration of the House; King Stephane; Egmont and including excerpts sung by soprano Birgit Nilsson unforgettable. Note, of course, the different interpretations of the symphonies No. 3, No. 5 and No. 7, where we can, however, regret the sometimes heavy slow versions from 1959 to 1960 (especially on the 5th and 7th, for which interpretation of Carlos Kleiber remains, in my feeling, the ultimate reference). But, on balance, this box remains excellent value for money.
