I was rumzufliegen looking for a joystick to the winter a bit in aeroflyFS. I play for many years with limited ambition and long pauses in between flight simulations (Microsoft FS from 95, X-Plane, Il 2, Lock On and derivatives and Rise of Flight) and have about 450 real flight hours, of which all but the last 30 , on gliders. So far I have not saved the joystick and the Saitek X 52, then the Logitech G940 used. These work with the Mac is limited and I have now no desire to sacrifice much space on your desk, so told me the compact solution of an all-in-one joystick highly.
The problem of the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro is now (limited Mac and training for real flying) on exactly my application. The stick has a very light, actually unproblematic game on the vertical axis, which controls the rudder, within which he is extremely smooth. The sensors react to movement in this area nonetheless. Taking the stick loose and relaxed in his hand, "is" is easily the left rudder and wobbles in this direction. If you want to leave a course, which is unfortunately very disturbing.
Of course you can now about the sensitivity of the axes, etc. begin to minimize this problem, but it is a result of a fundamental problem of this product: While centering on a rubber sleeve mimics the restoring forces aerodynamically within streaming rowing reasonably, and not bad for the price, according to but the sensors of the joystick would need in the face of the price actually completely acceptable manufacturing tolerances in the center a minimum area where they do not respond. The ways to correct here in software are very limited in aeroflyFS in particular and Mac OS X in general. Rudder does not exist for the small planes that I use in aeroflyFS.
When I fly in a flight simulator, I'm trying to work out the things that you do not learn in the glider and for me the engine flying hours are too expensive and too bad. This primarily involves parameters such as altitude, speed, heading and bank angle to keep within defined tolerances and that goes with a good flight simulator actually very nice. Due to these weaknesses the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro is for me not in question goes back.
