DuckTales Remastered (computer game)

Customer Review

First of all an indication that may not be familiar to all those interested: you need a Steam account to play "DuckTales Remastered" on the PC! More on this below under "Tools".

STORY:
Scrooge McDuck toured several areas of the world in order - driven by his natural greed for more wealth - collect five valuable treasures. It is in the Amazon, to Transylvania, to Africa, to the Himalayas and even to the moon. However, not only local opponents stand in his way, even well-known enemies like the Panzerknacker and the Witch Gundel jugglery.

This is a remake (or "reboot" called) of the NES classic game "Duck Tales" of 1989th

GAMEPLAY:
"DuckTales Remastered" is a Jump & Run game for one person, in which you simply skips through the level, place objects (even hidden) and opponents Platt makes. There are seven levels. At the end of each level, a larger bosses expected the protagonist.
The challenge in the game is mainly in trawling through every possible angle of the level to find hidden treasures (treasures bring money, so to speak, points) and in defeating the bosses, each with their own pattern.
There are three different levels of difficulty (Easy, Medium, Heavy). You can unlock a fourth, even trickier difficulty level upon successful completion of the degree "heavy".
The gameplay is very simple and quickly learned. As in the original game, there are only two ways to kill your enemies (jumping them by walking stick on the head or pelt by walking stick with a basement). This increases the challenge from level to level a little, thanks to the level designs (snow, sharp rock peaks, lava ...).
How many lives (attempts) you get depends on the difficulty level.
You can not save the game, it is automatically saved. So you die in the middle of level or during the boss fight, you do not have to start from scratch, but then arrives at a near point, or at least in the same room again.
Power-ups are available as pastries, the brush life again, a few extra heart (extend the life points), Scrooge McDuck-dolls (a life, from the medium difficulty) and as a temporary Invincibility powerup (equally rare to find). What items you can find how often is also the difficulty level dependent.

GRAPHICS:
There is a 2D graphics in cartoon style. And she looks into my eyes out fabulously.
Even if one does not have the 8-bit original version the mind's eye, the graphics and the feeling is beautifully designed with attention to detail, colorful (and where appropriate) giving, as you actually play the cartoon it. And if you walk in there more than necessary, it is again better: the graphic is completed with witty, additional animations (about the character).
Nothing would now be revolutionary, but apologize in comparison with the already successful original is "DuckTales Remastered" a feast for the eyes, but even so it is nice to look at.

MUSIC AND SYNCHRONISATION:
Here, I give equal time to that the setting of the game at all one of my favorite elements of the game.
Of course, the old soundtrack received its update and that can can be heard tremendous. Tunes like the moon, Transsilvanien- or title screen theme create a lot of pleasure and motivation, are lively and revamped. The few newly composed pieces for the additional levels are also a dream.

Attention to the hardcore nostalgics: the main menu and optionally the 8-bit original soundtrack can be selected!

Passive is the language issue. For all surviving original speakers of the 1980 cartoon "DuckTales" could be won, even the now 95-year-old Alan Young as Scrooge McDuck, and almost the same age as June Forey wicked witch Gundel jugglery (just to name a few). This is not only a logical and great idea, the result is combined with lots of little scenes, the quasi the gaps between the levels fill, further bringing the story within the level and still give the game an extra humor. If even the graphics gives a, you play the cartoon, then these scenes especially.
They are controversial among gamers: Some see annoying and time-consuming, while others appreciate them very much and see it as a completion of the reboot (you can count me among the latter camp). But the middle of the game provides the voice for amusement and more lives, especially of course the protagonists Scrooge McDuck, who likes the executed actions, is pleased with treasures found or expresses displeasure over by opponents and all this in his typical Scottish accent.
Sound effects are very fine, they remind partially also to the NES original. They may also partially wonderful atmosphere create (eg in Transsilvanienlevel outside of the castle, where you can hear pounding rain and thunderstorms).

Menus and options:
There is of course the title screen (main screen), where you can start a new game, continue a game or part thereof, can see the won extras from there and can also define the options at the beginning. Thus, as the control as needed can modify.
Warning: There is no multiple memory locations and who will start a new game, it has to give an older, had an unfinished game. This I find particularly bad if you have at least one other person interested here who wants to try the game.
This would be my only real complaint about the main game: If you have just this game up and running, you can not go to the big screen without losing any data. Changing the controller or switch the soundtrack mode is not the game so.
In the game, then one can nevertheless at any time turn on the escape key to a smaller menu where you define a few options, exit the game, look at a map level and can cancel any current film scenes.
The game is available in several languages (German, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French), which, however, only to the written language (subtitle, menu text) effect. The voice acting is held exclusively in English.

EXTRAS:
As mentioned, you can optionally select the 8-bit soundtrack and run in the main menu.
And as also mentioned there is a choice of difficulty.
In addition, it is possible here to take a bath in Dagobert Ducks famous money bin. A small, entertaining and fun Well, when you virtually at Dagobert's already at home, you can probably still indulge.
But important to mention above all the extras have to do with the collected money from Uncle Scrooge. Will hot: In "DuckTales Remastered" you have the opportunity to unlock the collected money in the levels of bonus material like character galleries, other galleries (eg Concept Art to the emergence of Level worlds), Soundtrack pieces and so on.
Before I write about the level achievements a few words, I'll be the most important thing that you need to install the game: Steam. Steam is sort of an Amazon for Games Downloads, legal and associated with a player community. They opened an account yet free, there creates a profile and can purchase games for download there also. You can also make other Steam members happy with a gift of game.
Anyway, you need a Steam account, but only in the PC version. For the other console versions the associated networks are likely to play the appropriate role.
Why Steam? During installation and during the game you are connected to Steam. If the game an achievement unlocked (eg winning a big treasure after a successful boss fight), this is indicated as an achievement publicly in Steam profile, the game time is counted, won over time digital trading cards to "DuckTales" -Charaktern.
All this may be just really important for hardcore collectors. But if you should even use steam, which is at least a nice touch for the way.

CONCLUSION:
From the perspective of a person who knows the original NES in 1989: I have literally fallen in love with "DuckTales Remastered". It is and remains a successful new edition and who wonders, who needs it, at least once should play the sample.

From the (most authentic) vision of a "newcomer": Even for players who do not have anything with the original at the hat, is "DuckTales Remastered" a round value! It promises an easy start and a lot of joy in this cartoon-like Hüpfspiel.
Even for non-Disney fans could be a fun affair (my friend does not like Disney, for example, for cartoons and wanted very much to some watching the game itself allude).

It is, fair to say, a very short gameplay, but full of humor, treats for the eye and ear, as well as extras. Suitable for all fans and beginners.
