The Sun in the silk is the type of book that will ensure you hours of great reading. Surgical operations and life of the Duchy of Lorraine at the time of the Sun King are well documented. This sounds like common Zola; but the work in my opinion lacks perhaps a little epic and modesty that surrounds the relationships in the alcoves make this book is very wise and can be read by a wide audience. The comparison made by a literary critic with The Pillars of the Earth seems a little too laudatory.
