Here is my assessment of the Canon 10-18:
Pro:
- Good image sharpness over the entire image area (at least as good, rather a tick better than the Sigma 10-20). Tested were the 5.6 aperture, 8, 11th
- The image contrast is also at eye level of more expensive Sigma.
- Ghosting / Flaring is moderate but still available (subjectively slightly worse than the Sigma).
- The color reproduction is natural and somewhat saturated than that of the sigmoid colon, the Canon personally like it here better.
- The focus is focal Limited and STM typically inaudible and insanely fast.
- 67er Filter Diameter (the Sigma 77mm). Thus, the purchase of much cheaper gray filters etc. is possible.
- The weight is incredibly low, 1/3 felt my Sigma ... (470g vs 240g).
- From its dimensions, it is slightly larger than the 18-55 STM. At first glance, can not be determined which is mounted on the camera of the two lenses.
Neutral:
- The image stabilizer tears from no trees. With a steady hand, a shutter speed of 1/10 second is possible with 10mm, then blurred the picture. Even without stabilization, similar results are possible. But only from placebo reasons a cool feature)
Cons:
- Plastic bayonet
- Missing lens hood supplied and utopian price expectations of Canon for a 0.3 cents article ... (but we are Canonier away from the L-segment already used to;))
Conclusion:
The lens has an insanely good priests / performance ratio and gets me a strong buy recommendation. Since my Sigma 10-20 4-5.6 is on par with the Canon 10-22 and the new Canon is at least equal to Sigma, I wonder if Canon in the 10-22 segment can, or this is a discontinued model. Personally, I can understand anyone who buys for double the price the old Canon wide-angle now ...
