The notebook was naked (well with Free-DOS) delivered and got me a Windows 8 uploaded. The installation was completed simply and easily. There were no further drivers necessary. The ASUS runs properly with the operating system.
Here are some impressions from the field:
Music playback
Even without external speakers, you have a relatively balanced sound (of course lacks a little bass) with sufficient volume.
Internet
Normal surfing is of course possible without problems. Stream (Sky Go football broadcasts, ARD library, etc.) works smoothly. Browser Games also run without any lag.
Watch movies / DVDs
Goes without problems. Full HD (1080p) movies are played back smoothly.
Video section
The sequences shot with my Pocket Cam HD can be cut beautifully with a simple editing program and put together to form a film. For professional video editing, the part is of course too weak.
Audio section
Self recorded audio files can be (eg Audacity) edited and cut without problems with an editing program. I have also shared my MC collection digitized so.
Office
I use Open Office and so that the device is of course readily apparent.
Games
A gamer notebook, it is not, but undemanding, older games run. For current games the interior is naturally feeble. But for that the unit was not well developed.
What else is positive?
There are USB 3.0 ports (unfortunately only two) and a large 500GB hard drive available, which is not self-evident in this class. The dual-core processor from Intel achieved in conjunction with the 4 GB of RAM, a good working speed. The notebook also developed surprisingly little heat, although the fan does not run continuously, and when, is barely audible.
What is there to complain about (if you can call that, given the prices at all as a defect)?
- The display reflects but quite strong (outdoors I want so do not work) and the quality (color, contrast) is highly dependent on the viewing angle.
- At the feel and processing You can already see that it has a device in the low budget range. Not me wrong, it does not look cheap, and does not feel cheap, but in the finish, it does not serve up higher devices.
- The (for my taste too much) touchpad annoying at times with a certain life of its own. (Has been so often been criticized).
- There are only 2 USB ports available (but USB 3.0). The use of USB hubs is therefore mandatory.
- The cover is very sensitive when it comes to fingerprints.
- The battery life is a maximum average (in my case, depending on the application +/- 2,5 - 3 hours). For mobile applications, it is therefore less suitable.
But as I said, these are points that are given the otherwise excellent price / performance ratio can accept / need because somewhere has to come from the reasonable price ;-). Who wants here more must pay more.
All in all it is a good notebook, which does most of the everyday tasks with flying colors. And for what I need a Ferrari when I drive only recommended speed? ;-))))
For the average consumer, I can issue a strong buy recommendation. Who wants to play with the latest games and practicing professional video editing and also emphasizes a top feel and processing, which then needs to spend at least 2-3 times for it.
