Inexpensive upgrade / enhancement of existing WLAN infrastructures

The Access Point WA901ND is an inexpensive device with a network throughput can be proud of.
After the AP was supplied by Amazon, I made immediately after commissioning a firmware upgrade to the latest version.

As a networker and Security-fan, I was amazed that even a "Power over Ethernet" adapter (adapter to power via network cable) is included. This means that you can not necessarily a power connection near the AP requires what can be very useful in exposed places.

The WA901ND offers a wide range of security functions for the Home or SOHO (small office / home office) probably should be sufficient (Verschlüsselungsmethoten & MAC address filtering).

VLANs also be supported in the Multi-SSID mode.
The number of SSID's but with "only" four SSID's limits which are turned on by default with no security feature (Please adjust to observe and encryption!)

As a small flaw, I would like to point out that it is currently impossible to single SSID's not Brodcasten (hiding of networks), but others do not, so make visible (eg in hotels or guest networks in cafes).
This has the disadvantage, so that you can share it in general, or just needs to lock.
Furthermore, the function provides "Enable AP Isolation" Although the possibility to communicate to suppress (data exchange) between the clients, but also again not individually to entitle only for all SSIDs and. More expensive devices offer this possibility.
Therefore, there by my side only 4 stars in the overall assessment.

Another disadvantage is that there is no so https encrypted connection and management of self-WA901ND.
All in all, one must nevertheless say that it is a very inexpensive device, and this is an absolutely fair price / performance offer.

In my view, the unit is recommended and relatively easy even for non-networkers to use (detailed installation instructions in German in cardboard)

I read in some reviews again and again over distances through walls, floors, etc.
I would like to say that you should consider very basic conditions in order to achieve a good reception and Sendequaltität.

Is it with his client PCs near the AP, you should scale down the transmit power confidently. (They also do not understand better just because you cry you directly into the ear ;-)

In particular (and thin) partition walls made of gypsum, the radio signals weaken strong because these water molecules to keep in close form and therefore can greatly limit!

Especially TP-Link offers very cheap external antenna with gain share in order to optimize the reception.
