Wanted on this device, I came because I have my iPod nano (4G) via remote control in conjunction with my Denon system control namely music and video.
Many similar devices (such as the X-Dock by Creative) refuse to at least partially co-operation with the new generation of Ipods. The Universal Dock from Apple was also unsuitable, since limiting the function of the related remote control at loud-quiet, front-back and play-pause.
Unlike the other two mentioned solutions of Denon ASD initially seems quite expensive, but offers the full iPod control the possibility Internet radio to receive and play music from your computer via wireless network on the hi-fi system connected to the ASD and by to control remote. The sound quality of this I feel (for MP3 conditions) to be optimal, the video quality seems to me the transfer via Apple Component AV Cable something inferior - the video function for me even more is just a nice gimmick.
The remote control can be used fairly intuitive, with larger data sets (selection of music from your PC / Server) is the reaction a slight delay, but even to be tolerated.
The connection of the hardware is simple and intuitive to accomplish. The installation of the radio network, however, is a very nerve-wracking, frustrating and time-consuming affair: The instructions on this subject not too detailed, but is limited to the bare minimum. Especially confusing is when the ASD responds differently than in the instructions given, the input of the network name and password, use the arrow keys on the remote control. After entering the text you need to press the cursor right, otherwise the time-consuming manual entry for naught. It has countless tests needed until I had my ASD extent, at least to do what is described in the instructions. Why it worked at one time and not before, now I am still not clear. In between, I was about to send the unit back. I mean enough technical understanding of the sophisticated technical household to have. Meanwhile, the Denon ASD runs fortunately smoothly ...
Short Conclusion:
+ Sound quality
+ Web Radio
+ Access to the music data on the PC via wireless network
+ Control either via TV or on the screen of the iPod (iPod only
Features)
+ Operation via remote control
+ Fully compatible with non-Denon products
o Video quality rather moderate
o Manual kept rather too scarce
- No real off (hidden power guzzlers - untimely)
--Grauenhafte Installation of the radio network - just for people with
strong nerves and technical knowledge, or technology for Cracks
A great device (if it runs at last) but nothing for people without in-depth experience with wireless networks ...
