Logitech G402 Gaming Mouse FPS Hyperion Fury (USB) UK version (accessories)

Customer Review

For a fan of the G400 / MX518 series and the gauge of the G502 G402 is at first glance a strange bird: A changed and in my opinion slightly improved form of the G502, but unfortunately without the great PMW3366DM-VWOU sensor same. Instead comes a AM010 sensor is used, which has already been installed in the G100s. This is a low-end sensor in principle. He is, however, very precise and responsive, also he was pimped by Logitech: 4,000 dpi and 80 dpi native Steps 240-4000 are available.

As a special feature, the so-called fusion engine was installed. The same internal 32-bit ARM processor as in the G502 hardware side is an optical sensor coupled with the accelerometer (acceleration sensor). The tracking of the sensor is weakening depending on the location from 2.3-3.0 m / s (2.3 m / s = 92 IPS). Logitech provides a pace knife with the Gaming Software, which allows you to test how fast you can move the mouse. Faster than 92 IPS I never managed, ie the Accelerometer never took over the tracking of the mouse, it just was never necessary. And that was in the extreme conditions of this test, I simply had no more space on the table and had nearly rammed the keyboard.

However, real low-sense pro gamers achieve this pace occasionally in game situations. But 500 IPS, which are about 12.70 m / s (!), Are unnecessary even for this. You can turn off the fusion engine. For me the fact changed anything, so I left them a safety precaution.

The mouse works perfectly on my Goliathus Speed XXL pad, they will track perfectly even on my frosted glass table. The lift-off distance (LOD) is slightly larger than the G502 and can not be calibrated. About twice as high on my pad, 2 CDs / DVDs. That's okay.

After an endurance test I can report to my surprise only positive about the supposed low-end sensor, even if the shell smacks of recycling G100s components remains:

- Pixel Accurate and responsive, no smoothing (by Logitech from 2,000 DPI 4-frame smoothing), no significant acceleration. I am very impressed and was pleasantly surprised!
- Has been tested with 240, 800, 1,200 and 3,200 dpi. 4,000 DPI also seems okay, but I do not even on the desktop to quickly, so no durability test with 4,000.
- Plays better than the A3080E and S3095 in the G400 / G400s. My favorite mice / sensors for many years.
- Even at least as good, if not better, than the PMW3310H in Kone Pure Military or SteelSeries Rival. These sensors do not give much, here it is more on the feel and shape of the mouse.

Nevertheless: Why not just take the G502 sensor or the PMW3310H, then you do not need Accelerometer tricks even in extreme situations.

The G502 sensor (PMW3366DM-VWOU) makes loud Logitech's website more ago: Max Acceleration:.> 40 g / Max. Speed:> 7.6 m / s with the G502 are Max acceleration:.> 16G / Max. Speed: > 500 ips (~ 12.70 m / s) compared with in the G402. But that's all rather Marketing. Neither 7.6 m / s at the G502 even 16 G acceleration at the G402 are limiting in practice, more than enough resources are available in both.

Benefits of the G402 over the G502 with the form. The left thumb rest (please compare the two mice on the Logitech website, very good feature for panoramic view) is larger, the buttons were placed a little higher. I like that well, as the smooth coating instead of the grip pattern of G502. The DPI lamps are better placed directly under the DPI button. These have a simpler form that I like better. The side buttons are not so good: click to be good, but are triangular-pointed if it is not from bottom to top with the thumb, but directly from the page. It feels not so good, even if you definitely achieved thus a more precise and clearer pressure point as for example in the Rocca Kone Pure Military, or G502.

A tribute is due to wheel and main buttons: The rubberized and stable two-way wheel with clear screening and low noise level like it much better than the four-way metal wheel with freewheel the G502! What I did not like so much is the volume of the middle clicks, here a little too tight spring was also installed. Perhaps there still. After all, the main keys are much quieter than in the G502 and click a lot better! In addition, the right mouse button does not rattle, which the G502 I could occasionally pull up to the welding of the ring finger and bring to rattle.

Only 106g brings the mouse on the scale. 108g without cable says Logitech, I have even less weighed 2g. That's great! Thanks to me, fortunately not disturbing grooves on the right side you can stand out very well. I like better than rubber inserts as in some mice. The weight is distributed better than the G502 with its> 121g. In addition, just the mouse wheel does not weigh as much, the focus is so much cheaper, not as front-heavy.

The slightly altered shape I like better. Still, I find the design of the right side, however, as immature. You can lay on the side next to the little finger ring finger little, here disturbs the ridge of the housing on the edge, but this is not quite as wide as the G400, where you could easily put your finger on it. While it is more space on the right side than the G502, yet even the little finger occasionally drags along the ground in a relaxed posture. That's so many mice, but need not be. For the thumb to build, too pronounced depressions, which also improve the grip. Move just for the advertised group of low-sense gamers the long distances with great acceleration would be a form which also allows the ring finger to the sides to create probably better suited as a pure steering by the thumb and the little finger.

The "Sniper" button is still available. Some may use it, but the target group of low-Sense Pro-Gamer plays already innately low DPI values. For some it may be perfect, it may disturb others, while others reach him difficulties with outstretched thumb. Me personally, he does not bother, I can use it but not really. That thing is probably only there to make the mouse to an 8-button mouse and superfluous as a goiter.

Conclusion: Despite some flaws in detail, the mouse immediately very felt good, it is a pleasure to play with. The G402 is my new mouse of choice.
The lower weight and resultant discontinuation of unnecessary weight flap and I feel much better congenial wheel made the difference. Visually, however, I prefer simple shaped mice, Logitech does not have a style more, visually this form is more of a melange of Mad Catz, Razer and Roccat elements. The sensor is surprisingly good, I can not complain. He is even really excellent, even though I can not really explain it to me, why the savings-part turning up from the G100s suddenly so.

Despite everything, I would have really liked to have the sensor of the G502 in a more classic case instead of something obscure Accelerometers and the fusion engine.
